Remember my old “Basic Greetings”, greeting card? Crappy cards I made two or three years ago for fun and for unfortunate souls? Well it’s back, and I don’t mean all dead and zombie like, but rather new and improved and possibly spring fresh ( Read more... )

Well, I guess I was surprised to see the bears! Especially since last time we spoke... you were undecided between a monkey and a bear. =P

No it was suppose to be a bear, but after the 4th draft it turned into a monkey! Then I made it into a panda.

So cute (who wouldn't want to celebrate the birth of a baby koala? ;) ), classy (nice, understated color scheme and graphics.. like the white cut-out shadow and the anime-ish two-tone shading), and sentimental (awww-inducing). It's lovely~

(And just out of curiosity, what software pkgs. do you use? Do you draw in pencil/ink, scan, and then shade, or do you create your drawings completely digitally with a prog like Illustrator? I have a new tablet and CS2, and have been having fun doodling around with them. :) I'm just curious about how other people (who actually look like they know what they're doing) create their stuff.)

It depends on the type of art work but generally for comics I pencil and shade before I scan. Color and other stuff (like the blue background in the card) is added afterwards in CS2 and Illustrator.

mmmm, that's pretty even shading by hand. Anyway, love your style, thanks for sharing! Always enjoy seeing your work. :o)

Well the color shading for the bear was done with the lasso tool and pen in CS2, but the shading in the other art (for the tree) in the post below was done by hand, it was just part of inking.

For anything color I will always use CS2, black and white 95% by hand using ink.
