even if it sounds like it's not bullshit, it probably is. those people are fucking professionals at lying and stealing. the other day i was walking by the book store at UH, some black dude walks up and gives me the whole bullshit line, i left my student ID in my girlfriend's car, and i want to return my books. i knew he wasn't a fucking student there, but i did it anyway, stupid me. i walk in, the girl says she knows the guy who is missing those books. i did the right thing after that, i got back at the fool. i told her to keep them, and i walked outside and said, you stole those books, didn't you? he was like, naw, dog. i was like, well, the girl at the counter seemed to they were stolen and kept them anyway, you gotta go in there to get 'em back but you need your student ID to do that ... i gotta go, later.

my point being: if they have a story instead of outright saying they need beer or money, it's bullshit.
