I need help finding a vet who is passionate about researching diabetes in animals. I need someone that has more information to help me help my little guy. This is all breaking my heart. He is losing too much weight and his eyes seem to be getting worse ( Read more... )

This is the vet i told ya about that has been super with tabby and knows we aren't all made off moolah but love our little fury friends.

You can switch to get another vet from the staff, just call and ask if there's anyone on staff who has more diabetes knowledge.

Also, you can ask to be referred to NW Veterinary Specialists for a diabetes/ ophthamalogical consult. Since he's already got cataracts, they won't clear up on their own and surgery may/may not help... and that would be after his blood sugar is steady.

You do need to know what to feed him, what appropriate blood sugars for him (as a pug, if that exact info is available). It may be trial and error as you monitor blood/ adjust insulin/ adjust food. Poor little guy.

if you haven't already seen this site has loads of info... if you want to teach yourself as much as possible... can save you $ when you're paying by the hour for advice.

There's also the holistic vet in SE off Hawthorne, he really helped me improve my rottie's health after the cancer diagnosis. I think the consult was $120.

I wish I could tell you someone who really specializes in canine diabetes. Poor little guy. He is just so adorable!
