Question for you guys... can peanut butter go bad? What does "best before" REALLY mean?

I think... most things *can* go bad. But, with peanut butter, as long as no spores or anything have jumped in there, the worst that's going to happen is the oil's going to separate. A good stir should put it back together.

"Best Before" means exactly that. It's a question of quality, not safety. You can eat mayonnaise past it's best before date and it won't hurt you, but it probably won't taste good either. My guess is that if you have peanut butter that's past its due date, it'll still taste mostly like peanut butter.

The funny post-script is that the dog's rubber kong was being filled (and sometimes double dipped) out of the same jar so I'm just going to buy another.
