This morning I received the news that my good friend Matthew Smith, known to us in London as "Smithers" has died in a road accident. I work at Areva and have been one of the fortunate ones to have been in Mathew aka Smither's company for almost a year having joined the graduate scheme the same day as him.

He was a brilliantly high callibred man and as many have mentioned had a library of knowledge on various topics that he was really passionate about. He often spoke about his role playing games and nuclear power when I accompanied him on train journeys to London and was a pleasure being around him. As my colleague has said, we shall miss him a lot at lunch and the spare seat shall always remind us of him.

It is a very sad and upsetting moment that such a person has been lost at such a young age when he had the potential to make a change in the world we live in.

Rest In Peace Matthew and you shall be forever remembered!

In an often dark and cynical world, Smithers' enthusiasm and zest for the things he loved was a tremendous asset. He will be sorely missed.
