Do they think I'm an idiot? Two of my 8th graders used the word "connote" in their Jekyll & Hyde essays. Umm, that makes it KINDA obvious they didn't write the stuff themselves! I thought you were done with work until the baby. I love that the lesson of this el jay post is to cheat well enough not to get caught! ha! I don't think I've ever used the word "connote" in my life.

me neither! haha. oh yeah, those 8th graders are sure something! i am done with work, but i still have papers to grade before report cards go home (not actually sure when that is, but it's coming up in about 2 weeks, roughly... i think). :)

hey--i am being induced thursday afternoon, not friday. micah will still be born sometime friday (yay! the 13th!) though. can you feed doggies friday night, saturday morning, and saturday night? i will need to get you a key somehow... not sure how i'm going to do that...

There's nothing an eighth grade teacher can do to inflict permanent damage on the little bastards, so I'd favor going for the maximum punishment you can mete out, whatever that may be. Hopefully they'll learn something about trying to game the system that will lessen their chances of doing something to colossally stupid in the future (where it's a lot more likely to leave a paper trail).

hell yes, i agree. basically, they're getting a detention, plus embarrassment, plus they are having to meet with the principal (a nun) to discuss it. i wish i had more power than that!
