This pisses me off

I don't understand this at all. I have a hard time with the right wing uber Republicans I know who make well-intentioned liberals and their causes out to be things hatched in the fires of hell. Ive always known people on the Left can be the same way, but this is just nauseating to me ( Read more... )

It's certainly distasteful to wish death on anyone. But purely on the question of "were these men mercenaries?", here's a newspaper story that says that they were:

Further along these lines, given what we know about paramilitary commandos and their habits, it does not sound unreasonable that these people could have been "contact thugs who shoot first and ask questions later" as one DU poster put it.

If that was indeed the case (for which I have neither proof nor disproof) I would indeed be be less inclined to mourn their deaths.

As I understand it, the city that these Marines were in is one of the few cities that were allied with Saddam. They were not fighting in the war, so the war hasn't affected them as much, save that, they were in Saddam's "good graces," and now that he has been overthrown, they are not getting that good deal anymore. The city is predominantly Suni Muslims. In the northern part of Iraq, the Shiites are welcoming Americans, and in the southern part, they also support America taking action and are looking forward to running a country of their own. This middle section around Baghdad, does not want the American soldiers in their city, so this was their attempt to remove them.

What I don't understand that, even if they were mercenaries protecting troops and U.S. citizens in the region, that suddenly makes their deaths all right to these callous idiots?

So if our soldiers were dragged through the steets in said fashion they'd be okay with that?

Those are the things that infuriate me about them and their causes. I was in SF quite a bit when all the anti-war demonstrations were going on. There were all these stickers in the metro stations "# killed in Iraq war." They left out the number of Iraqis killed under Hussein prior to the war.

I'm not justifying Bush's decision one bit (I loathe the little dickwad), but these people are just myopic, anything anti-U.S.-anything morons and have ZERO credibility with me.

Perhaps there's a reason why it's called DemocraticUnderground.com... lol.

I doubt any self-respecting Democrat would endorse such a message on the actual party website.

Oh well. What do you say we put the creators of that site in a room with Michael Jackson and a carrot and lock the door for oh, say, an hour? ::grins:: =D
