That Fic Meme

Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means ( Read more... )

One Man's Trash please from the Mama Ji universe. I adore the trashcan but the whole story is wonderful.

Actually, never mind about the word count. I was making the exact lunch Rodney is putting together in this story and was apologizing to my trashcan and whacking it and getting generally annoyed, even though I was in a very good mood, actually. And I thought that Rodney would love a trashcan like that, would probably make a trashcan like that, so I plopped John into my normal seat at the kitchen table and Rodney behind the kitchen island getting lunch ready and watched Rodney through John's eyes.

I totally hear the can still saying "trash?"

Oh my - what a lovely idea. You know I love (and will always love) The Checkmate 'Verse, so here goes. I love this scene. I'm on holiday from today so it will be a nice thing to look forward to when I return - if it's OK with you that is... *hugs ( ... )

Well, the being a preacher's kid surfaces at the weirdest moments, but, it comes in handy sometimes. Once I came up with what do you do after you transform back, which, practically, since you've been an animal and transformation takes a lot out of you, you're going to need a bath, some food and a nap, it was pretty easy. And once "bath" hit my brain, and I remembered that there was a river nearby....it all sort of came together.

And then the question was, "what do you say after not being able to speak for a month? after having this amazing experience?" And because there was a rite marking the beginning of this journey, there had to be one to end it. Because otherwise, everything just sort of drifts to a halt and feels unfinished and people feel uncomfortable and ooky ( ... )

From ConversionOf course John was the very last place Rodney looked; his quarters. He was stretched out, belly up and paws dangling, drowsing in the afternoon sun. He turned his head and gazed fondly at Rodney, drunk on sunshine ( ... )

Lord, lord lord, this was one of the hardest stories to write. I walked into my bathroom/sunroom thingy, and my Kaatskill...
OH WAIT A MINUTE, I LOVE YOUR ICON. Perfect!

Anyway, I walked into the room and she did this: He turned his head and gazed fondly at Rodney, drunk on sunshine.
And that image just stuck with me, like a burr, but one in a place I couldn't quite reach, like it was in between my shoulder blades ( ... )

Thank you! (And I'm glad you like the icon. That's John's (Flan's) eye manipped in there.) My Smudge does that too and I wondered if this scene had its origins in a real life cat. :)

Ah, my English Lit/Theatre geek comes out to play. Hmm, I just noticed I use the UK/Canada spelling of theatre in stead of the American "theater." Oh my, that just looks wrong.

Ah, me first fic. Terribly indulgent and there are some places that I feel like I should reign in, but still, a warm place in my heart for this one.

Those lines from As You Like It have always given me a shiver of pleasure. There's so many layers going on, and, well, it depends on your reading of it, really. You could say, "Just as high as my heart," matter of factly, with a hand at mid-chest level. Or you could say it with the same motions but realizing the - to pull a quote from Much Ado - double meaning. Or more than double, for she is as tall as (his heart) mid-chest, she has high stature in his heart and she has filled him up to the heart ( ... )

All of this came from wondering how John was going to decide that it was okay to enjoy his time as a cat, because they certainly didn't stick around long enough to find out from Gata'nah ( ... )
