I'm a very shocked this morning. Obama, the man I voted for and support, won the Nobel Peace Prize. Being elected President of the United States does not qualify one for that prize. I believe he is more than capable of performing actions on behalf of the United States that will more than qualify him for this award, but as of right now, I don't ( Read more... )

I agree with you. Some people think it was the Committee's thank you to the U.S. for turning away from Bush-era foreign policy. I think they included an element of behavioral modification in the award: if he gets the award, he will feel the need to live up to it. Regardless, I think he should have declined it - graciously - too.

I like and support President Obama, but I don't really see anything he's done (so far) that would qualify him for a Nobel Peace Prize.

I think it's sad that the previous administration managed to set the standard for American Presidents so low that simply "not being Bush" is apparently enough now to justify being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.

It's not so much a prize for honoring his efforts to bring peace to the known world, but rather an acknowledgment that he's not Bush.
