Yesterday we gave ourselves a treat and went to the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco to see glass. Lots and lots of glass. Gloriously colored glass in all sort of astonishing shapes, sizes and patterns. The Dale Chihuly Exhibit. Wow ( Read more... )

There's an arts and crafts village near me, where artists in residence do demonstrations of various crafts, including wood carving, ceramics, and glass blowing - we want to go some time soon.

I got something from you :) and sent you something as well.

Yay for adventures!

I remember seeing Chihuly's stuff, but I don't remember where - possibly the last time it rolled through the De Young, come to think of it. His shapes are wild and organic and amazing. One wonders how they'll look in 300 years, seeing as how glass is a slow liquid. Will they flow into new shapes?

I have not received care package, and am getting somewhat worried. Did you send one, mum?

Care package has not yet been shipped -- hope to get it in the mail this weekend. What are delivery constraints? Can I send it UPS and have it get there without you having to be home? Also, are there any items of a spicy or vegetable nature that you would like included? Artichokes, avocados, chilis, etc.? Let me know...

I don't think avocados would ship well. Artichokes are tempting, though!

The only things that spring to mind are those big bags of dried Shiitake mushrooms you find in asian markets sometimes. Those are awesome, and I can't find them out here.

The selection of chiles out here is actually pretty good.

UPS and FedEx Deliveries can be dropped off at the apartment- complex's office when I'm not home, so long as they do *not* require my signature. They leave a little note in the foyer so I know to pick 'em up.

Thanks, Mum! Also: What do you want for your birthday?
