Miaoli, Day 7: Christ's Mass
Christmas blessed me with rare tea, scrummy food, a gift from the heart, and warm company. Eric and Joyce joined Aaron and me for two rare teas, an (estimated) 1920s loose-leaf pu'er and an (estimated?) 100-year old oolong. Christmas Eve offered me more tea, teaware, and insights. Eric, Boris, Aaron and I began by finishing the Wuyi rock teas--a Shui Xian, a 2nd generation Da Hong Pao, and a Da Hong Pao from He. I liked them all, but above all I preferred He's inclusion ( Read more... ) -
Miaoli, Day 5: Boris Arrives
Aaron and I again drank tea with Eric, finishing the last of the 90s pu'er samples. After Eric left tea continued with a new Lincang region xiao bing, a 1930s bud-only tea brewed with "poo-poo pu'er" (long zhu in Mandarin), and, finally, Aaron's attempt to convert me to his preferred Zhengshan Xiaozhong, a tea too smokey for my tastes. Miaoli, Day 4: School Xmas Party
Today was a hectic day for Aaron and his wife. Their school's Xmas party--big affairs for bushibans--was this evening, and they were scrambling to get everything ready in time. We took a break from the chaos to have two young pu'ers, both from Zhou Yu of Wistaria House, one from an unnamed location and the other from Yiwu. The first blew my mind. ( Read more... )
