Good girl!

Actually, the eating out in restaurants isn't tied to the credit card debt. It's just an unnecessary expense that adds up to a lot of money for most people, money that could be put to better use (such as removing credit card debt).

It seems most of us are confused about what we actually need and what we want. Most of us have exaggerated feelings of entitlement ("I really DESERVE this vacation, wide-screen tv", etc.).

This just proves my theory that the world would be a better place if more people knew how to cook.

Well thankfully, Eabha isn't deriving her income from working at a restaurant anymore. (Man, what would that do to the restaurant sector if every person who watches Oprah didn't go to a restaurant once in January.)

I will say that I go a day without spending money fairly often, a week without using a credit card sometimes, but I don't think I've gone a month without visiting a restaurant since I moved out on my own, or maybe since college when I had a meal plan.

What always gets me is the people who won't pay their water bill or get behind on their mortgage, but always pay their cable or satellite TV bill.

I know! They "can't afford" X but they have the money to go to the nail salon, hair salon, etc :/

Way back in the mists of time, my friend and I calculated how much we spent on lunch every week (we ate out 3-4 days a week). It was a LOT each month.

On a daily basis, it doesn't seem like that much but when you look at it monthly it really adds up.

I go six, sometimes seven (depending on when gas tank must be filled to get to work) without spending any money regularly - and have done so for most of the last five years.

Too many people do not do a weekly shop, then cook at home and pack their lunch. It is a serious financial drain. They don't (and most won't) realize just how much until they are unemployed and not eligible for state unemployment someday...
