As long as I start to write again, something good will bound to come out of me soon enough!

Starzindanite and I were waiting across the street from Mc Donald's, and in mid-conversation, I suddenly noticed ACTUAL GOATS caged up in a vacant lot. A very strange sight to behold in an urban San Franciscan neighborhood. Then I look up, and there were a HERD of them grazing on the "Love is the Answer" hill across from our Community College, and even more ( Read more... )

Hooray, you're back on the ol' el-jay! ^_^ I'm definitely going to try the haircut place, I've been in a hair rut forever. Do I need to make an appointment or do they do walk-ins?

Shag does walk-ins, but the salon is run out of a bitty basement space with two stylists working there at a time. It'd be best to make an appointment so you can avoid the hassle of waiting or having to return another time. Hope it works out! Otherwise, let me know and I'll stop refering people there.

P.S. Are you up for BRMC at the Great American Music Hall?

The goat "phenomenon" wasn't so unusual after all; they were actually hired by our dear city to mow the hill as an alternative. Still fucking awesome.

That is an odd yet interesting picture. It sounds like you had quite an adventure in China. You also seem to be very observant. The last time I went to China was when I was 11. I came back really tan. It was great! Ehm, sorry. When I was in China, I spent most of my time in Tai Shan because that's where my parents are from. It wasn't so bad except I got bitten by mosquitoes a lot and I saw extremely odd and large bugs. But I didn't get to play with any kids my age while I was in China because my family was paranoid and they didn't want me playing outside in a foreign place with people I don't know. I remember that I kept eating ice cream everyday in China and surprisingly I didn't get fat. I would wake up early to go with my grandparents to the market sometimes. I remember seeing people sell snakes in cages and dog meat...and other animals I couldn't identify. I remember that I went to visit the villages where my parents grew up. Supposedly when someone from a village moves to the U.S. or whatever, and they come back to visit the ( ... )

Kitty!

How're things? How're you and Ani getting along? How're you enjoying our new huge television? I was bummed I missed you inbetween our trips to the far east... but I'll be home in a week.

Let me know what's up... also, let me know what the hell goats were doing grazing on the "love is the answer" hill.

Hey Meryl.

Not working has yielded the most amazing month, but it's been a cold and bitter summer here in SF. I know you’re ruing the humidity and heat, but you're also experiencing a normal summer! What fun.
I like Ani as well, and our household will be eclectic but in an agreeable way. Our new huge television is amazing; Ani offering to give me and Helen her old ski jackets is amazing; and our new Pasta Pro pasta pots will be equally as amazing! Rejoice.

the goats are employed by the city to clear away plant detritus. i don't know if they get paid though.

I've been reading about this at GoatsRUs. They're a company with a clientele; they do get paid and the fee is as follows:
"The fee charged depends on the size of the site and type of vegetation, but the average is about $700 per acre. The cost includes transportation, the shepherd's salary, supplements and healthcare for the goats, fencing, and insurance."
As for Helen's question, the site doesn't say, but they've been spotted all around the bay area.

They even have retirees: "The goats in our herd are never sold for any reason, and when their "golden years" approach, their scope of work is kept local, just outside of our ranch, where they can roam the hills without encumbering the stress of traveling between locations."
