That documentary freaked me out. I can totally see what attracted people to the Jones cult originally, although he looked a little unstable to me even in the early years. And having watched that, I'm kind of pissed now that the slaughter is referred to as mass suicide.

I also had dreams that night of poisoning. Whee!

I'm fascinated by how his mind could have worked (if in a horrified kind of way). I mean. . . wow.

I think part of the problem was that his mind wasn't working very well at all by the end. And everyone else was so worn down from working all the time and his constant PA speeches. A very unstable situation. The story about the "practice" mass suicide while the congregation was still in the States was just chilling. The whole thing is so sad.

By the end, sure, but I'm not convinced it was working that well before that, anyway. Seriously--he looked Not Quite Right from the footage of him, even in the early days of his church.

And yes, that was quite chilling. The whole thing was, really.
