It would be really difficult to choose five books, but I'd have to look at my bookshelf for the most tattered books:
1. Lucy Maud Montgomery's 'The Blue Castle.' As far as I'm concerned, the characters in this novel lead the perfect life.
2. Stephen King's 'The Shining' or 'Desperation.' These are my two fave King books -- the ideal horror settings.

I love L M Montgomery, and Rilla of Ingleside is guarenteed to make me cry everytime I read it. I worked in Vancouver for a couple of months a few years ago and came back with several copies of books out of print here (UK). I have a pretty good collection of Noel Streatfeild too, including some of her adult works. I always read Susan Cooper's 'The Dark is Rising' at Christmastime - a gorgoeus wintery book.

I love LM's 'Emily' books, as well as 'Rilla of Ingleside' (did you know there's a lost manuscript being published this month, called 'The Blythes Quotes'?) The last few lines of Rilla are definitely heartbreakers!! I can remember reading about Walter's death, and my Mom phoning me, and wondering why I was bawling -- she thought a close friend had died (well, he had!)
I love Maeve Binchy's 'Circle of Friends,' and Rosamunde Pilcher's 'Winter Solstice.' I regularly re-read Francesca Lia Block's 'Dangerous Angels,' and Stephen King's 'The Shining.' Hrm. I love Alice Hoffman's 'Practical Magic.' I love Jeffery Deaver's 'The Bone Collector,' and Robin McKinley's 'Beauty' and her other novel based on Sleeping Beauty (Briar Rose I think?)
Phew. It's a long list. What are some of your faves?
