i enjoyed your foamy reference. and you state your opinions in a very concise, intellient manner and this makes my heart smile.
but please, please, please don't judge rap/hip-hop harshly because of money crazed, sex addicted mouth breathers like 50cent and eminem. there really is some intelligent, well produced rap out there. remember that rap was once protest music. maybe try listening to say, krs-one, biz markie, hell even the beastie boys. and even some newer artists like buck 65 and k-os or the warsawpack are really, really good.
i adore the beastie boys... but i never really considered them as a "rap" group... more as a techno-ish kind of group. and i wont lie, i DO enjoy some hip hop. I mean, I'm pretty open as far as music goes. But from what I've heard from rap, all I've heard is shitty attempts at sounding sexy coming from very unsexy men... :-/
*hangs head* Eminem is my guilty pleasure. He's got some fairly dumb songs, but you have to actually listen to the CD and not just the radio to hear the songs that actually show off his intelligence.
Hard to believe- but the guy is actually quite talented with words.
yeah, i know he's not completely untalented. i've actually listened to and enjoyed a few of his songs. i'm mostly trying to say that when people think of rap, they usually think of eminem and other such artists, people who give said genre a bad name. and it sucks because there's so many really talented, intelligent, socially conscious rappers out there who aren't getting any air time because they don't have mass appeal.
I really enjoyed your "Why music is important to me" answer. So you pretty much had my yes from there.
I did want to make a comment on your rant though. While I really don't watch a lot of TV myself, nor do I care for most of the reality TV shows, I think that Fear Factor is a bit different from the other shows. I've always enjoyed watching people do stunts in a competitive way, so this show is right up my alley. ...The rest of them really are shit though.
.. Dream Theater partially influenced my decision. I'll admit it. BUT, you seem to be very intelligent and informed for your age, and that makes me happy. Also, Mozart rocks. More people need to realize this.
Slightly unrelated: You're pretty and I like your hair. :] Good luck.
