A New Neighbor.
Ohno jumped up onto the brick fence next to Nino, who was just lazing in the sunlight. Ohno looked curiously at the big house on the other side.
“They have a dog?” Ohno wondered out loud, not expecting to get a clear answer from Nino at the state he was in now. True, Nino only mumbled something and shifted so that he was tucked in comfortably in Ohno's arms. Ohno began petting the younger cat's hair out of habit; he always enjoyed hearing Nino's purrs.
“Kazu,” Ohno mewed into his sensitive ear, which twitched in response. Nino opened his eyes a little bit wider, looking up at Ohno.
“Nn?” Nino nipped at Ohno's fingers when they stopped their movement, more of a reminder than out of annoyance. He didn't realize the cat intentionally stopped- that was just absurd. Ohno continued to thread his fingers through Nino's soft hair, but he quickly began talking now that he had his attention.
“Aiba's neighbor, does he have a dog?”
“Huh... Oh, Sho-kun?” Nino grinned, his eyes glinting. Ohno tilted his head questioningly. “He's usually indoors, I guess that's why you're not familiar with him yet. And Jun-chan is his owner.” Nino's eyes only seemed to get brighter, and he sat up, letting Ohno's hands get their rest.
“Come on, you should meet him,” Nino said, smirking. He jumped off and onto Jun's property.
“It's okay?” Ohno called after him, but he jumped down as well.
“Oh, I come here all the time!” Nino ran up to the front door and through the dog flap, Ohno hesitantly following after him.
Nino brushed himself free of dirt, uncaring about making the clean rug dirty (Ohno wondered if it was on purpose.) “This way,” he called to Ohno, walking into another, larger room.
In the middle lay a large brown dog, sleeping. Its face seemed friendly enough, but the body was well toned and muscular.
Nino glanced at Ohno and giggled. “Don't worry, he's not strong at all. Air muscles, y'know?” Nino poked the dog's nose- or more like stabbed- and he woke up with a yelp.
“Ah, Nino!” Sho smiled in greeting, rubbing his nose. He noticed Ohno and rose his eyebrows questioningly.
“That's Oh-chan. He's staying with me now,” Nino explained.
“I see, it's nice to meet you,” Sho said politely. Just then, an outraged yell came from the previous room they were in, making Ohno jump and Sho whimper. “Nino, you didn't...”
Nino shrugged, a smug smile on his face. “Well, see you later, Sho-chan!” He grabbed Ohno's hand and ran to the back, out the other dog flap. He and Ohno both jumped back into Aiba's backyard. Panting slightly, Ohno watched Nino laugh gleefully.
“Was that okay?” Ohno asked uncertainly.
“Of course,” Nino replied, his laughs dying down. “Ahh, I'm hungry now,” Nino yawned, stretching and then going inside to the kitchen. Ohno followed him, more for the possible invitation of food.
However, when they went inside, Nino's ears laid flat when he recognized Aiba's and Jun's voices.
“Can't you control your cat!? It's been countless times since he's just gone into my place and ruined it!”
“I'm sorry, Jun-chan, it won't happen again!”
“You always say that,” Jun sighed heavily.
Ohno's comforting hand squeezed Nino's gently. “You should apologize,” he said softly.
“Why would I do that?” Nino scoffed. “They can't even understand us.” He let go of Ohno's hand and sulked under a table, ears and tail low. Nino was certain Aiba would make him apologize anyway, and apologizing was one of the things Nino hated to do most.
Nino's hair rippled dangerously when Ohno approached him, making the brown cat stop shortly. Nino felt bad; he liked Ohno, he didn't want to make Ohno scared of him (he probably wasn't anyway), but Nino wanted to be alone. He watched Ohno sigh softly and leave, grabbing a small piece of bread on the way.
“Nino!” Aiba called after a while. Nino pressed himself up into the corner, still under the table. He curled up into himself, making him as small as possible. However, Aiba's large hands soon reached for him and picked the cat up.
“Nino,” Aiba continued sternly, “you know you have to stop going into Jun's place whenever you want! I know you like Sho-chan, but maybe we'll have Sho come here instead?” Aiba's eyes seemed to brighten up at the idea. “I like Sho-chan, he's so nice. Maybe I'll tell Jun that...” Aiba put Nino back down and went to leave, then turned around to his pet again. “Don't think you're getting away so quickly, you're definitely getting a bath tonight.”
Nino mewed grumpily in response, recognizing the word 'bath'. He didn't mind bathing himself, but he never really did enjoy getting water poured all over him from someone else.
It was already dark out, which meant Ohno was probably visiting his family. Nino climbed up a tree and jumped onto the highest top of the roof- his new special spot. His bright yellow eyes scanned the neighborhood for any sign of another cat, but Ohno was nowhere in sight.
Only guilt flushed through Nino's body; he hadn't meant to drive Ohno away from him earlier. Nino didn't like to apologize when he actually felt he didn't need to, but for once he did.
A while later, Nino slinked back into the house at the calls of his owner again for the dreaded bath.
--
Nino nuzzled his nose into the soft, familiar hair, his arms pulling the other body closer to him. Nino sighed contentedly when arms wrapped around him as well.
“You smell good,” a sleepy voice murmured into Nino's neck. Nino giggled softly in response to the sniffing. He opened his eyes and looked down into Ohno's, which looked back at him innocently.
“Sorry I wasn't there to accompany you in the bath,” Ohno said.
“What- it's okay,” Nino spluttered. They may have been naked, fur-covered animals to human eyes, but to them a naked body might as well have been as good as a human's.
Ohno smiled and got up, bringing Nino up with him as well since his arms were still entwined around the brown cat. “Oh-chan,” Nino murmured, remembering what he did the other day. “Oh-chan.”
“Nino,” Ohno replied, his eyes questioning.
“I...Sorry, about yesterday. That, um.” Nino looked down, letting his arms fall and his hands find Ohno's. “I was being stupid, huh.”
“Pretty much, yeah,” Ohno said without hesitation. Nino bit his lip, nervously looking back up at Ohno, only to find him smiling warmly. “I like stupid Nino.”
Nino blushed deeply, then jumping when Aiba's cheerful voice interrupted the two.
“Hey, Sho-chan's here to play!” Aiba let the dog in; Nino turned his head around to see the new arrival. Sho raised his eyebrows at the position the two cats were in.
“What are you doing here?” Nino asked, frowning disappointedly. He reluctantly entangled himself from Ohno.
Sho shrugged. “I guess Matsujun just doesn't want you two to go to his place anymore, and so I'm the one who's visiting instead.”
Ohno nodded in approval, but Nino scowled. Sure he liked Sho plenty, but he didn't want the dog bursting in whenever (even though he did it himself). Well, if Sho was to come he'd have to deal with their 'affection' then.
“Oh-chan, you didn't take a bath but you smell different today...” Nino licked Ohno's exposed collarbone. Ohno looked down at Nino and smiled questioningly.
“I wouldn't know why that is. Although, my mom did feed me a new kind of fish last night,” he replied innocently. Nino hummed and continued licking up to the underside of Ohno's jaw. He glanced at Sho, who was red in the face and looking away. Nino chuckled and moved away.
“It must've been a yummy fish,” Nino said.
“It was!” Ohno beamed. “I'll ask her if she has anymore today, I'll bring it here for you.” He looked at Sho and tilted his head. “Would Sho-kun like some too?”
“I-It's okay, I don't really..eat fish,” Sho mumbled. He coughed awkwardly and scratched his ear.
Nino pouted slightly, feeling bored. He turned to Ohno, who was spacing out again. Sho was just sitting there, watching the two. Smiling playfully, Nino began to snuggle into Ohno's arms again, whose wrapped around Nino without hesitation and out of habit. His smile faltered when realizing Ohno was still in his own world.
Nino liked Ohno's attention only on him, and he didn't like having to deal with Ohno's lack of consistency all the time. Nino just wondered what to do. He had gotten used to the whole licking thing, and sometimes soft bitings, but Nino felt like he wanted to do more.
More might mean a huge misunderstanding though, and Nino wanted anything but Ohno to be disgusted with him.
Sho then let out a soft bark, getting both Nino's and Ohno's attention.
“Ah- well no, I just-” Sho cut himself off and looked down, embarrassed. Nino rolled his eyes, knowing dogs were just annoying always. “I'll go see what Aiba's doing, then,” Sho muttered, leaving the room.
Ohno looked at Nino and smiled, seeming to finally realize the smaller cat in his arms. He let out a surprised mew when Nino squeezed his butt playfully. This, at least, was something he could do without having Ohno become suspicious.
When Ohno suddenly kissed Nino softly on the lips however, Nino froze. Ohno quickly lifted his head back, a worried look in his face.
“I'm sorry, Nino! I didn't mean to-”
“Is it normal?” Nino asked quietly, his face unreadable. “Is it normal for cats, to kiss?”
Ohno blinked. “Um...I guess I'd call a kiss special.. Nino?”
“Special,” Nino breathed. He closed his eyes and rested his head on Ohno's shoulder. Ohno smiled, feeling rather than hearing the soft vibrating in Nino's throat.
“Want more?” Ohno asked playfully.
Nino giggled and nipped at Ohno's brown ear softly. “What do you think?” Nino smiled mischievously back. “But later. Sho's gonna freak out if he catches us doing naughty things.”
He kissed Ohno's lips when they formed a pout, savoring in the new, yet familiar taste of Ohno. “Think we should have a bit of fun getting Sho out of the house for now?”
“If my reward will be delicious, sure.” Ohno smiled brightly.
