Summary: It's a bit of a shock for Nino when he gets a stray as his neighbor.
A/N: Ohmiya!cats. ;3 They appear as regular cats to humans, but to each other they're humans with cat ears and tails? It's weird, yes.

Nino’s velvety black tail swished back and forth, his bright eyes watching the other cat carefully. The light brown cat was sitting on the edge of the pond, watching the fish. Nino sat on a tree branch- he always felt the need to be in higher places than other animals.

The cat’s hand suddenly plunged into the water, and coming out with a relatively big fish in his hand. Nino raised his eyebrows, impressed. Well, I could probably fish too, Nino thought. He never actually tried- he was more of a house cat and relied on his human to give him food. Except Aiba gave him really strange food sometimes; when it came to that, Nino could hunt down a mouse or small bird with ease.

Nino wasn’t used to other cats, though. The brown cat looked up at him and smiled, catching Nino by surprise. He fell down from the small branch he had been resting on, but his feet nimbly landed on the brick fence.

The cat went up to him, holding up the fish. “Here,” he spoke in a quiet voice. Nino’s eyes narrowed in suspicion, but he took the food anyway, hungry. “I’m Ohno Satoshi. I’ll be your new neighbor, nice to meet you!” Ohno grinned.

“Ah...I’m Nino.” Nino wasn’t sure if the cat moved in with a human, or he was the kind of traveling cat. Anyway, Nino was busy chomping away at the fish so he didn’t ask. Ohno went back to his place near the pond, but he curled himself up and seemed to be sleeping.

Nino, being curious, jumped down from the fence once he was done eating and had carelessly thrown the fish bones on the neighbor’s property. (Nino knew perfectly well that the human, Jun, lived there.) He softly padded over to the sleeping cat.

Ohno was around Nino’s size, but he wasn’t as scrawny. Nino poked the chubby cheeks, which were soft like a baby’s skin. Nino’s hand then ventured to his hair, which were also soft to the touch. He let his finger slide down an ear’s side, causing it to twitch slightly.

The cat opened an eye. Nino quickly moved back, blushing. Ohno sat up and smiled, then looked past Nino, who turned to see what it was.

“You made a new friend!” Aiba said loudly, walking over to the two. “Hmm, I guess he’s wild?” Ohno meowed, unable to understand the human’s talking, but he could tell Aiba wasn’t bad.

“Do you have a name? I guess I could call you.....Taka!” Aiba nodded, looking proud with himself then going back into the house.

“He seems friendly,” Ohno said.

“A bit crazy at times, though,” Nino shrugged, smiling when Ohno laughed. Nino wasn’t used to other animals (even though his human seemed to love them), but he didn’t think it would take long to get used to Ohno. The cat seemed calm and quiet, so Nino was sure he wouldn’t give him any trouble.

Ohno suddenly sniffed at Nino’s neck, and Nino felt his small tongue lick it. Flushing, Nino moved further back. “W-what are you doing?!”

“Bread?” Ohno tilted his head. Nino stared at him, not understanding. “Did you eat bread earlier? There were some crumbs on your neck.”

“So, you don’t have to lick it off,” Nino snapped, a warning of a hiss. Ohno only shrugged, looking off into the distance absentmindedly. Nino was pissed off- but not at Ohno. It was his damn heart picking up a whole new, faster pace.

Was it a normal act for animals to lick each other? He licked himself plenty of times to clean, but never another cat. Grumbling a tiny bit, Nino leaned forward to Ohno and licked his ear.

“Mm?” Ohno blinked, looking at Nino’s flushed face and smiling.

Well, Ohno didn’t seem to mind it. Maybe it was normal after all. “Nothing..” Nino murmured, looking down.

Nino sighed after a while, feeling the sun’s rays on his back. It was time for sleep, but he didn’t really feel like moving to someplace else. Ohno’s hand came to the back of Nino’s neck, pushing his head down onto his lap.

“Eh?” Nino blushed again (really, Nino didn’t know he could blush so much in a single day).

Ohno’s hand pet Nino’s soft hair, calming him down almost instantly. His black ears stopped twitching, but instead laid back a little at the comforting feel. Nino looked at the hand Ohno wasn’t using, which was in perfect view. He had long nails, and would probably be extremely painful if those claws ever came out (but Nino assumed that they only came out to catch fish). Nino himself was good at being pretty violent, but his fingers were short and he didn’t really have any admirable claws.

Nino purred softly, his eyes drooping.

--

Ohno always disappeared at night. Not that Nino really cared. He was just curious about Ohno’s daily schedule. It had been a week since the cat arrived, and they cuddled with each other quite a lot. Nino found out that Ohno was extremely nice to cuddle with, who seemed to think the same about him.

When it was cold at night, Nino went back indoors, unable to find Ohno along with his everlasting warmth anywhere.

Except for that day. Nino was more than just curious- he wanted to find more about Ohno, who seemed so much more mysterious than himself. Nino didn’t think Ohno would really mind telling Nino about himself, he just rarely talked. Nino didn’t want to seem like he actually did want to know more about Ohno either though.

During the time Nino usually napped with Ohno, he only pretended to. He would usually wake up to be alone, so if he didn’t sleep now, he’d be able to tell when Ohno left each day. It wasn’t too long after Nino supposedly fell asleep that Ohno gently pushed Nino off his lap. When Nino was sure the cat had his back turned and was already walking away, Nino opened his eyes. He was proud in having light feet, which barely made noise on the pavement so it was easy to follow Ohno without being noticed. However, Ohno was equally quiet, if not even quieter.

Before Nino knew it, he already lost sight of Ohno. So now he was lost, in a strange place he didn’t know.

Nino was a little pissed off at himself. Ohno was nice; he probably wouldn’t even mind taking Nino with him to wherever it was he went to.

He heard a rustle in the bushes, and Nino peered his eyes at it. “Oh-chan?” Nino slowly and cautiously went through it. He started to hear small quacking, and soon the ducklings came into view.

“Eh..” Nino was about to leave when the mother duck flew over to him, angrily shooing him away with its large wings. Its vicious beak pecked at him repeatedly, and Nino had no choice but to retreat quickly with his tail tucked in between his legs.

Nino was hurt. He had bruises covering his body, with some cuts too. Curling up in a small ball, Nino mewed softly into the silent night and shut his eyes.

--

It was bright, Nino could tell through his closed eyelids. He slowly opened them, and realized he was in Ohno’s lap.

“Oh, you’re awake.” Ohno smiled and prodded Nino off. As Nino moved to sit up, he cringed as he remembered he had been hurt pretty badly not too long ago. “You shouldn’t have followed me without telling me,” Ohno said sadly, fingering Nino’s injuries. Nino couldn’t really say anything back.

Nino gave a start as he felt Ohno’s small and warm tongue lick across his bare back, which he just realized he didn’t have his shirt on. “What-”

“Gotta clean your wounds,” Ohno explained.

Nino understood, but he was still embarrassed at the way his breath was coming out in small pants. And then he actually started to purr quite loudly.

Ohno smiled, thinking about how cute Nino was.

“H-How did you get me back home anyway?” Nino asked.

“Mm, carried you back.”

“Ah, right, thanks,” Nino murmured.

“Well, all done!” Ohno said happily after a while. Nino smiled thankfully at him, now able to move his body more freely without having to wince in pain all the time.

Nino leaned against Ohno’s side and rested his head on Ohno’s shoulder. He sighed contentedly as Ohno chuckled softly.

“Oh-chan, where do you go at night?” Nino finally asked.

Ohno looked thoughtful for a couple of seconds. “I meet up with Miki-chan.”

“Oh.” Nino frowned slightly. A girl?

“She’s my sister,” Ohno added, unable to not smile at Nino’s troubled face.

“Oh.” Nino glanced at Ohno, a blush creeping up into his cheeks. “Oh-chan, will you stay here?”

“Why do you ask that?” Ohno looked at Nino questioningly.

“B-Because, you seem like a traveler, or something of the sort..”

“True, I moved a lot before coming to this place.. But I like it here.” Nino looked up at Ohno hopefully. “It has fish too.”

Nino laughed, nuzzling Ohno’s neck. “You know it’s because you like me.” Ohno smiled, purring his agreement.
