Things Bec has learned in her duties as a sub-editor:

1. Spell check really is beyond the capabilities of some people. It just is.
2. Big words won’t make you sound smart. But they will provoke much lol-age around my office when I tell everyone how you tried to use the word ‘unequivocally’. That word does not mean what you think that word means ( Read more... )

Re #13: Ah, the traditional send the new kid on a search for a non-existent object. I work in auto parts. Ours is to have the new parts guy try to find a radiator for a 60s Volkswagen Beetle. They were all air cooled back then, so there isn't one. In the grocery store you're sent to borrow a 'shelf-stretcher'. In my TV repair class, a bucket of amps. No such things.
