→ I have been ignoring pretty much everything lately and I have felt sort of neglectful, but it's also not my fault. Let me recreate a conversation I had, late one night:

Siobhan: So, I have a new theory.
Becky: Oh? *side-eyes*
Siobhan: In fact, it is perhaps better described as a cunning plan. Because I have a new theoretical (and CUNNING) ( Read more... )

This is why Pin is the best ever. The best ever.

HE IS. I thought I was the only one who understood WHY is so hilarious to torture Kazehaya like he does, ha ha. And yes, he should wear his hair down more often - he does in a recent very OMG GAME-CHANGING chapter of the manga and his hotness is out of this world. Though obviously I'm biased because he is like my favourite in the whole thing (well, Kurumi is but they are pretty close).

If I were in the series, I would probably spend as much time torturing Kazehaya as I could, too! IT'S ALWAYS SO MUCH FUN! I really want to start the manga (especially since I hear they left out little bits and pieces here and there?) but I'm wary of getting sucked into yet another monthly title when I can hardly stand to wait for weekly ones.

(I love Kurumi, too! Well, okay, I love everyone, but--!!)

I love Kazehaya but I admit I enjoy seeing him having a hard time.

The anime is a pretty faithful adaptation, actually, as faithful as I've ever seen, I think. They leave bits out but tiny bits. The biggest problem is that the anime only covers like a little of the story. SO MUCH AMAZING SHIT HAS HAPPENED AFTERWARDS. I mean I love the pace of the anime but I'd wished they've reached later stuff - although I'm biased cause later stuff includes things RELEVANT TO MY SHIPPING INTERESTS. But hey, I was happy they included a lot of Kurumi stuff in the last episodes (even a Kento/Kurumi lovely visual moment, because that one of the two ships I'm batshit crazy about in this fandom). I never thought I would get so much Kurumi in the end, lucky me. MAAAAAH GIRL! (okay I might have started loving her cause of her voice in the anime but...)

It's hard to not just love everyone in this series - they are all so lovely.

If he weren't so adorable when he wanted to crawl into a hole and die, it wouldn't be so much fun to torture him. He kind of brings it on himself.

Has a lot happened since where the anime left off then? It didn't seem like that many chapters had been put out since then, so I assumed it had progressed some, but not that much? Either way, I'm putting them onto my reader now! And I'm definitely willing to be convinced into Kento/Kurumi, so long as she's given time to get some closure and the thing with Kento isn't just a rebound, which I think would be unfair to both characters. I want a ship that I can like for its own sake! (But I think I can trust the series to be good about that.)

I honestly don't think I could pick a favorite in this series! Usually, with shoujo anime, I zero in on one or maybe two ships, but with this one... I just love absolutely everyone. ♥ (*curious* What's the other ship you really love with this series?)

kwenlknawe fanart is horrible and mean and makes otherwise rational people fall in love when they do not want to.

Also, I visited Eigamura in Kyoto today and saw a whole wing devoted to Kamen Rider/Power Rangers and there were many Kabuto suits and advertisements and I thought of you and also of The Big Gay Romance that lies at the heart of Kabuto. It was rad.

Fanart is really a huge weakness of mine. You'd think that this would lead me to know better than to play around on pixiv and tumblr, but instead it just makes me want to spend MORE TIME there. orz orz orz It really does pull down even the most rational people!

ENVYYYYYYYY, you should have taken pictures (even if that wasn't allowed or whatever) because that sounds awesome. *___*

Ugh I love kimi no todoke, every volume always fills me with ~FEELINGS~. Kazehaya and Sawako are so adorable! And I love that there's so much focus on her friendships too because shoujo manga is the best kind of manga. Seriously, I will defend this thesis. :l I scrolled down the screen fast because seeing all your posts on Madoka made me finally try it since the best way to make me watch something is to write posts on it. (I am immune to pictures! I just think they're pretty and stroll out. But words are my candy so any anime that gets people to write and theorize about it will eventually draw me in). I'm in episode 5 so far, it's interesting though I kind of wish I could redesign all the art choices (I am so allergic to moe, I probably would've dropped it after the first episode if I didn't want to read your posts)

re: Madoka Magica - I honestly think the moe designs were done on purpose to contrast against the subject matter and the tone of the show, making it a lot more effective than it would have been if it used a different art style. But I also totally understand why just looking at the promo art would turn a person off, because I felt the same way the first time I saw it and it wasn't until others were talking about it that I decided to give it a shot. (I also think that it's not the second coming that a lot of people get the impression people think it is? ....christ, that was badly worded, but you know what I mean. More that it was an incredible experience as it was happening, there was a lot of fervor to get swept up in that was fun! So, I'm really curious to see what you think of it, watching it all in one go like this! And I'm really glad you're giving it a chance! :D :D :D ( ... )

Re: Madoka's wish, I think she didn't wish it all away because Kyubey implied in episode 11 that without the magical girls humans would still be in caves. So basically, her wish preserved the wishes of all the past magical girls (so their's and Homura's efforts wouldn't be in vain) and took away the horror of turning into witches by being with them in their final moments.

Though I admit I cried so hard when her wish was being fulfilled. From the arrow shooting, to showing all the magical girls she helped, to her brother remembering her. Non stop tears!!

Also, I never really bought into Walpurgisnacht = Homura theory, it seemed like an unnecessary element. We already had enough to put on to her despair and hopelessness about not being able to defeat it, and the thing showed up in the original timeline without help. I suppose they could have easily said Homura couldn't defeat it because she wasn't, idk, fill with enough magical snuff and hope to fight against a witch of superhate.

And rewatching the last bit with Homura before the credits roll, this strikes me: "In this world that can't be saved, all the sorrow and hatred continue on. Yet, this world is a place she tried to protect. I won't forget that no matter what." On the flip side, it's the place where all the happiness+love remains as before.

I can definitely agree that Homura being Walpurgisnacht wasn't really necessary for Homura's story because she already had enough motivation, but I feel like... there was no explanation for Walpurgisnacht, why she was able to wreak havoc outside of a witch's barrier, why she was such a strong witch.

..... *considers* Unless that's one of the side-stories that's going on in the Madoka Magica universe? Because, if Walpurgisnacht got her own storyline, then I would be okay with not being explained in the Madoka Magica canon.

If nothing else, I loved the ending for the Homura/Madoka OTP levels it had, where Homura refused to forget her (and, of course, Homura is always the one to have to keep carrying on, isn't she?), even in this imperfect world. And I suppose that's another point--Madoka couldn't make a perfect system because it wasn't a perfect world and never would be. That's why humanity is what it is in the first place.

I think she didn't wish it all away because Kyubey implied in episode 11 that without the magical girls humans would still be in caves.

Oh, that's a really good point! And there had to be a reason for Kyuubei's explanation about all of that, which could be SHAFT's way of saying, here, this is why Madoka had to keep some sort of system in place, just not the current one.

I-- I can't lie. I did start to get a little teary when she was helping all the magical girls, because it was such so much excellent build-up. Remembering everything Homura did for her, the awesome arrow shooting, then helping all those girls throughout history. I LOVE KANAME MADOKA SO MUCH. ;___;b
