1) When we were there, we got around in our resort's transport service, so I'm not much help there!
2) We were on our honeymoon and didn't do too much outside the resort, but my husband did do a Zip line through the rainforest and loved it! He says he would definitley reccommend it.
3) I don't know about the areas you are going, but to see real rainforest, yes you are going to have to take a trip to see it. I say real rainforest because there are very lush trees and such all around but I never really saw rainforest. Jim did on his zipline trip, though.
4) We were there in June and it rained about once a day for about 15-20 minutes, in the afternoon. I guess you could take an umbrella, but galoshes probably aren't necessary as it's so hot that it never seemed to get muddy.
Oh yes, and we went on a sunset cruise and it was awesome! If you can find one, I'd definitely do it. We were in Guancaste, on the Pacific coast, to give you an idea of where we were.
We flew into Liberia - odd place!
Also, the money form is the Colone and I think when we were there it was like 40,000 colones to a dollar. Anyway, our travel guide told us that the people love being tipped in American dollars because of the exchange rate (which I don't understand, but good tidbit anyway!)
Our last hotel is in the Guancaste section, on the Pacific side. I'll have to check into the cruise.
Did you use American dollars or did you get money changed over? I am under the impression I should just take dollars since they are accepted most places.
We did a little of both. We took travelers checks, so when we cashed those in, they were made into colones.
We went to several outside vendors who couldn't cash the traveler's checks, so we always did them at the hotel. Because we ended up with so many colones, we just went ahead and used them up for tips and everything.
However, before we ran out of American dollars, we had no problems using them for purchases and such.
You know, CR is actually rather cheap. Granted, anything is cheap after our London trip. Air was like $340 which I think is good. We are going during the off season so hotels are well priced. Our splurg is the last hotel but that is only becasue we got a villa with three rooms. If it was just me and Fred we could stay there and spend a lot less in a smaller room.
Overall I think it's less then if I went home to Puerto Rico and tried to do the same thing.
never been, but good lord, it looks GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you are going to have an amazing time. you need to take tons of pics with that new camera of yours!!!
Those pictures are gorgeous - you are going to have a great time!
I've never been to CR myself but a really good friend of mine just went a few months ago. They "befriended" this taxi-driver at the resort and ended up hiring him for the rest of the time they were there. From what I understand, his price was very reasonable and the service was great.
They took an excursion to the rainforest and they took another one to go look at an errupting volcano, which they say is absolutely amazing. They also took a day-trip to Nicaragua on a tour bus.
Thanks. I keep reading that getting a driver will be the same as getting a rental so I think we'll go with the driver. We'll see since that is my next "project."
I know what volcano you are talking about and I really hope we get to see it. We were going to a hotel on the volcano but it is sold out so know we'll only go if we take a day trip.
How are you? I saw you on CC today but I can't log in from work so I could not send you a PM.
