we need to purchase a mattress and i was wondering if any of you ladies wanted to give us some input or advice.

i’m also curious to know what mattress everyone own, why, if you love it and how much do you think we should expect to pay. we are willing to spend what i think is a large amount but i wonder if that really = a better night sleep, you

We have ours from the original matress factory (based in Cleveland). We spent about $800 on a king set. I like it, though DH says it's not firm enough. I think it's plenty firm. I think our next set will be the kind that you can choose the firmness, since we obviously have different tastes. :)

We upgraded from a full size to a queen and it made a huge difference in terms of sleeping well. We have a Serta. I don't remember the exact cost, but I think it has a pillow top and medium firmness. It also has "isolation" so if one person gets up, you're supposed to not feel the other person get up. This sort of works...my husband used to sometimes get up really early to work at the hospital and sometimes I could sleep through it. Not always.

We've been pretty happy with our mattress (a full), but are upgrading to a $1800 Stearns & Foster Main Street model. It's extra deep (like 18") but I don't know if that really matters.

I would recommend going to the showroom with Fred and "testing" out a few models. We could have gone for something pricier, but above $2000 I couldn't really tell the difference.

we moved from a full size to queen when we moved to brooklyn 2 yrs ago and its heavenly

we bought it thru rockaway bedding on 6th/17th St
it has some sort of top to it it but not pillow top and love it - it is comfy but yet firm - it is higher off the ground (had to get new deeper sheets)

you should try sleepys and rockaway bedding and don't be shy about trying them out

I think ours was about 800 or soo and that was on sale

it was either a serta or sealy and they all call them diff names so its very hard to price shop

I LOVE my bed - still 2 yrs later :)

We have a Queen pillow top (Serta I think) that I bought 7 years ago. It's still great to sleep on and I don't think we'll look for a long time. I love the pillow top feature. But, sometimes with the pillow top of extra thickness you'll need new deep sheets.

Price wise - I'd have to look around to compare. Off the top of my head I would think $1500 for a Queen set would make sense. And I'd try to find that on sale. I honestly don't remember what mine cost. I actually doubt $1500 because 7 years ago I had just graduated from college. The set might have been around $800.
