I am in desperate need of a vacation… I need to get away with my child and be someplace other then my home. I want to bask in his glory away from the daily grind and

preferably by a pool with some umbrella drinks

a nice lavish hotel with a fabulous pool(s)

when it’s hot (July, August)

and even though it’s summer there aren’t bratty kids at the hotel ( Read more... )

Is Miami far enough from Ft. Lauderdale for you to avoid seeing family? I bet you could get some great deals on South Beach in the summer and that is such a fun place to go. Cheap, short flight, as well. And you can do a lot of strolling on Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive as well.

I think Miami is a no go as well. I'm not certain where all my relatives are now living but I don't want to risk someone being willing to drive out to see us (really the baby).

My Mom lives in Savannah, and the Westin could fit your bill there... but it is REALLY hot/muggy in Savannah in July/August. Is that the kind of weather you are looking for?

I am sure there are some lovely FL resorts as well, that would work...

You're a riot! Umm, no! Hot/muggy will not fit the bill. Is it ever warm and lovely there?

I'm starting to think FL is not an option... It should not be this hard to find a place to go.

Yes, it is lovely and warm in April, May, October... The summer is BRUTAL.

We had this HUGE dilemma in trying to travel last August. The weather sux everywhere. So we went to Maine, which was gorgeous, although not that hot, which was kind of what we were looking for.

I can't think of any place posh on the East Coast that would be nice then!

Ugh, it can't be this hard to find a place to vacation. My mom said no to April and May (too soon) and I said no to October (too far away).

Thanks for your efforts.

I was gonna say skip georgia in the summer, it's very humid...

I've heard great things about North Carolina - and the big bonus is that it's so much closer.

what's the hotel in Ft. Lauderdale? we go every year so I'm always interested in finding places there...

The Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa…. I can’t say too much about the hotel (though it’s gotten 4 diamonds) as I was most interested in the pool situation. I figured with so many options I had to be able to find a spot sans bratty kids.

The best part is my mom is government and they had a great rate for the time I was looking at. Like $102 a night.

NC is also very muggy/humid in the summer... but it's great in the spring (May is my fave time to visit the Carolina beaches).

It sounds a bit counter-intuitive, but have you thought about going north?

Another thought would be some place like Sanibel Island in FL - I imagine it would also be muggy, but it's on the Gulf Coast and far enough from Ft. Lauderdale that you should be safe from family! ;)
