Artwork SPN_J2_BigBang 2019 - the first

Jun 26, 2019 19:19

There were once again many great fics on offer in this year's spn_j2_bigbang; this was the first one I managed to claim. I was inspired to try some magical animation. I was happy to learn the author didn't mind not having J2's faces in the storybanner, so I could experiment with the image of the tree I had in my head. This is what happened...

Thank you! I like showing a Making Of, because working on the artwork is always a bit of a blur;)

Holy shit, B. *Holy* *shit*.

This is amazing. The amount of work you put into these gorgeous pieces is frankly awe-inspiring.

Each fucking leaf. Pressing individual veins. Holy shit. *bows to your greatness*

I loooooove the gifs! Green leaves, fall leaves, winter... the time and patience. And omg. I feel whatever pain you experienced when cutting out the letters for The Black Cat Mercantile and the cat itself. Did I ever share with you the paper cutting I did for a friend's wedding decor? If not, I should, because it was a major Pain In The Ass Labor of Love. I imagine you, at least, have better tools than I did, since you do papercutting so much more often. And the fact that you bought a new tripod just for this project? Inspiring ( ... )

Heehee, thanks, A. Your comments are the best, I love your creative babbling;) Yeah, a 'Labor of Love', that's what we'll call it :-p Using a new blade for every project would probably work best, but I don't always do that.
I liked the different way of working for the 'messy' horse; it was nice to not do a neat composition after the painstaking process of the leaves, but creating it so randomly went against my design instincts;)

Enjoy the story!

Beautiful work!! I love the tree GIFs too - incredible, how you cut out all those tiny leaves with the wee scissors - and the shop sign with the cat and the horse sculpture with the driftwood look are also amazing. Your work is always great, but I think you’ve really outdone yourself this time!

Thank you for your wonderful comment:) Cutting those leaves was a very zen activity and damaging the shop sign was slightly therapeutic, haha!

Your art is phenomenal, the gif with the tree regenerating the green & autumn leaves, and the black cat & ardglass & the snow gif, & that wonderful horse sculpture. I absolutely love it & it's perfect for that wonderful story, the perfect fit. Just wow, amazing! Thank you for sharing.

*blushes* Thank you very much! I love hearing that the artwork complements the story:) There were so many wonderful elements to visualize. I was charmed by the tree and the sculpture and I found the ardglass a fascinating material. I was happy to find a paperstructure to capture its magic. <3
