I know, it’s been forever. LJ doesn’t like https anywhere, so it won’t let me post. I am loading this in a different browser because of this. I do read on a daily basis. Hardly anyone ever posts there anymore. I doubt anyone reads. I have a Dreamwidth account, as well as Diaspora and G+. I don’t really pay much attention to G+ unless someone points ( Read more... )

The best way to get around the job sites/HR droid requirements is networking. Find people who know people who know the hiring managers. There are a bunch of us experienced folks out here in the tech world who don't have degrees, or "appropriate" degrees. Mine's in English Lit, and the guy who sort of had my job before me only has a GED. LinkedIn is a good place to start.

Good luck on the search!

I have a linkedin profile. I've been adding people like crazy, but I've not had any job nibbles from that. Would you like to take a look at what I have and give me a critique of what I could improve on it? It should be under Beki Disher.

I read!

Are there ways that you can use certifications instead of having to get a CS degree?

And are you using Dice.com? I don't remember them having the computer stuff behind a CS degree wall.

But, unfortunately, yes, lots of things are requiring the CS degree.

I thought you were going to try for a PMP: is that also requiring the CS degree? It didn't when I considered it. (I didn't have enough experience.)

I need to take the classes in order to take the test. I have no idea what to expect. What other certification you need would depend on what you are looking to project manage. EG, a business analyst would need a business degree as well as the PMP. Mind you, not every place wants a pmp, but it doesn't hurt.
