Did you all hear the great news?  All of us that get tax refunds are going to get an extra $300 back this year to "stimulate the economy".  Does that mean we are supposed to go shopping?  Because they decided to give us $300 instead of extending unemployment benefits or additional food stamp benefits.  I guess I'd better put that $300 in an ( Read more... )

that's awesome! If everyone just did that, maybe private charity could take up the slack for the government programs when things get ugly. It just defies common sense that this is the package AND I'm still pretty horrified that no one is really screaming about the extremely rampant mortgage fraud coupled with bad business practices for less fraudulent loans that has gotten us into this mess in the first place. They are trying to make it a "let's bail out the homeowner who is in over his head" without looking at the dark underbelly of why that situation exists en masse right now.

yeah, the focus on the credit problem as the worst issue in the economy is pretty blind. It really is just another symptom of the growing wealth gap in this country.

I understand that if we all go spend our $300, business reports for that quarter will be looking hot and they can say "see folks, there is no recession. Please go back to your TV and beer. All is well." That doesn't make it real! There would have to be more than a quarter's worth of "help".

I think I'm more horrified that the Dems were willing to trade expansions in pre-existing necessary programs for a few magic beans just to look like they are doing something because Bush would have vetoed any real package that might have actually supported the populace. I just hope that the "business incentives" and "relief for homeowners in trouble with their mortgages" is a better deal than a piss-ant little check.

I'll still cash the check, just like I did with the last one, but it is just as ridiculous. It will probably go to the landlord or some bill I have, just like the last one.
