It never is easy to stand out and chart a way of living different from that of your tribe / family / group. Sometimes we go on living like that , and just sometimes it feels fake as it did for you to do something just to fit in. I think we just need to accept ourselves as we are instead of how others see / want to see us. :) Glad you found your own way to reach out to the Lord.

I have. In a related note, the church I go to now has a "gifts inventory" questionnaire that after you complete it, you see what your strengths are -- prayer team, usher, outreach, hospitality (where I fit in), etc. -- so we have a better idea on ways to volunteer. The Bible says there are many gifts, and we all have 'em.

This is fascinating, and reminds me of a time I attended a similar style service in college. My reaction and results were similar to yours, actually.

Great use of the prompt (I had never heard of this phrase meaning that before this challenge and wasn't precisely sure what to do with that) - it's never easy to be in the middle of different practices and mores.

It's a character-building exercise to be the minority in a given situation. Fortunately, it was a fairly accepting environment.

Nicely done. And a very nice interp of the prompt. I really admire how you were able to set the tone without any negativity.

I went to great pains to not condemn or ridicule this group's style of worship, as they were only acting in the way they felt was right to honor God. I was just an outsider fish making my way in a strange pond.
