It strikes me that "the Spiriting speaking through him/her" could just as easily be the Spirit resonating inside of you, where only you can hear it. Through as in, throughout, rather than making you its mouthpiece.
People are awfully quick to assume that they know God's intent and ways, down to the letter. The fallacy of human interpretation and perception just goes right out the window...
Well put. It's the peril of taking a fundamentalist stance, holding a certain translation of certain scripture to be inviolate. (See: Snake-handlers). They seemed content with their way, and I'm content with mine.
I was told at the ripe old age of nine that I wasn't really saved because I didn't speak in tongues. Got told at various other times that I wasn't a real Christian because I was sad sometimes (you don't have the joy of Christ!), I worried (you just don't trust Jesus enough!), or of all things because my parents weren't married (you were born of sin, so your soul is doomed!). In fact, I got told I wasn't a "real" Christian so often and for so many ridiculous things that I just decided to quit trying to be one.
