Part of my job entails that I run around to all of the libraries on campus.  The one that I visit the second most, Steenbock, has the most incompetent library staff I've ever seen in my entire damn life. I say this because I don't have their job, but I could've told them how to do it themselves--and more importantly, I WAS RIGHT!

Ohhh sweet jeebus. If you had come up and asked me to take a peek behind the desk for the journal, I would have done that first, and THEN searched for it in the catalog if it wasn't there. I really, really hope it was that person's first day on the job. DURRRR. (And the supervisor's, too, although that is obviously not the case.)

I just hope I can get a job at a UW-Madison library if/when I get accepted to library school there. The turnover you describe surprises me. Students at McIntyre Library tend to stick around until they graduate.

Actually, it shouldn't be hard. There's a lot of graduate students in the library I work at (in fact, one of them IS a LIS/Library Information Sciences major!) and I'm sure that since there are so many libraries, one would be glad to have you.

My best suggestion when you start looking is either in Helen C. White (College Library), Memorial Library, Jacobsen (that's the Primate Center one where I work at), or Steenbock. Though, if you can get Ebling, I'd really recommend that one since they're probably the best run larger library in the UW-Madison system.
