converstaion: the dead art

So I cant recall where i heard this little piece of advice but its very simple, if your going to partisipate in a converstation then always craft your statements to encourage the other members to keep talking. great piece of advice that i cant seem to understand why more people dont follow. What has caused people to become more careless & ill

Hmmm. I'd like to think that I sometimes manage to hold conversations decently, although I'm still in the process of teaching myself. Interestingly, I think part of what's helping with that process is the prevalence of instant messaging. After all, generally, if you don't leave an opening for the other person to respond, or figure out some other way to elicit a response, than the person you're talking to won't be able to easily continue the conversation, which is the whole point of the technology. I think that as we've gotten into such large communities, the focus should shift from talking to everybody to talking to fewer people, with better conversations. Just my two pieces of eight.
