The Top Gun Slash Masterlist of Doom
A couple of years ago I started looking for Top Gun slash. And I'm still looking. :) Whatever I find goes to this list which is also cross-posted to my journal. Finally, there is this lovely community and hopefully there will be more. But meanwhile I'd like to share
Top Gun is the slashiest movie of them all.
Forget LOTR (although Frodo and Sam could give Maverick and Co a run for their money). Forget POTC. In fact just forget any Orlando Bloom movie already. Top Gun is the real thing. As
wild_boysaptly put it, the subtext is all in your face and more like SUPERTEXT. Which has been confirmed by Quentin Tarantino, no less. So when I googled for "top gun slash" I expected to find tons of fic. For some reason, there are very few of them. But here is what I have found:
- You've Lost That Loving Feeling by
wild_boys. Maverick/practically anyone. It is set during the movie and gets really dark and disturbing towards the ending. - Full Moon by
alais. Maverick/Iceman, post-movie. Maverick is still trying to come to terms with Goose's death. Short and sweet. - Hold Me Tight by
duckgirlie. Maverick/Iceman. Shorter and sweeter. - Always the Smile by
duckgirlie.Maverick/Iceman. Written for
contrelamontre's forbidden love challenge. Forbidden love has never been so cool. - A series of drabbles by
duckgirlie, still in progress: here, here and here. Very angsty. There is a plot, and if I'm not mistaken, it's going to be Maverick/Iceman. As it should be. :) - The Next Step by
fangirl_lizzie. Again Maverick/Iceman, very NC-17. Set post-movie, and it's six chapters long! It's also very good, though it gets somewhat sugary/fluffy in the second half. However, considering the source material ... It left me with a very happy feeling and a hope for a sequel. (Link fixed.) - Miramar and Ticket To The Moon by Tarlan. Maverick/Jester, and that just about sums it up for me. Both stories are well-written, but I just can't see the pairing. It took me a while to remember who Jester was in the first place. Incidentally, this is a crossover with Quantum Leap.
- The lovely
iolana_khenemet found where you can read all the fic from the now-defunct www.stilldangerous.com. There are four of them: In a Night, Hell Ice, Bird Kissing and Heaven In Your Eyes. Be warned: all of them are unbetaed, have problems with formatting, contain numerous mistakes and are extremely difficult to navigate through. I feel kind of bad saying that because I got the impression that English isn't the authors' native language, but I had to say it anyway. All these stories are Maverick/Iceman (duh), but this isn't the Maverick/Iceman I really like. I have to add, that Heaven In Your Eyes had some promising moments and good characterization, but overall it was too sappy for me. Still, beggars cannot be choosers - and the Top Gun fandom is very much a beggar.
imogenelovelace wrote two awesome and very hot (and funny) stories Fitting In: Maverick and Fitting In: Iceman. They both take place during the movie, and are respectively, from Maverick and Iceman's POV. "We finally nailed that crazy little fucker!" he yelled to Slider. - "Finally? I thought you'd been nailing him every night for a while now."- Wingman by
jim_street. Just a drabble, but it's very good and I wish there was more. Maverick/Iceman, of course. - Flying High by
buster_sword. Maverick/Iceman. Iceman has won the Top Gun trophy, but Maverick still has to prove who's the best. Or who's on top. - Untitled Top Gun Fic by
lin_writes. Iceman/Slider, Iceman/Maverick implied. Showers!fic. Very hot, and also serves as a reminder that Iceman actually is a pretty nasty piece of work. - Listen To Your Heart: Prologue, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 by
gypsy_lina. Maverick/Iceman very long future fic. Takes place several years after Top Gun and goes where no Top Gun fic has gone before. With spanking. The relationship dynamic is a little bit weird for me, but maybe because that's just not my kink.
