John quite likes the Barber of Seville: it has only two acts."
Oh, John. BoS is a delight. You're lucky they aren't doing the Ring Cycle.
*imagines John mouthing "15 hours" in horror*

*giggles maniacally*

John just has a very polite way of telling people to fuck off. It's very fun to work with.

This is set in 1870-1871.

John would not enjoy that at all.

”“Yes, Doctor,” Vernet replies, duty incarnate.
In a feat of incredible suspension of disbelief, John decides to accept that as sincere.”

Oh this is a fabulous idea for a story.

You’ve captured their voices exactly, and yet at the same time managed to transpose them into this half-lit world. Well, it was half-lit until the first ‘murder’ . . .

What a truly inventive idea, to translate army personnel into music; it’s working extremely well under your vivid descriptions, and I feel this is going to be a really unique story, intermingling the music with the drama of the story.

It was great the way you worked familiar characters into an unfamiliar setting and while I was reading I was really feeling this ~

”“Yes,” John says, and says again. “Yes, that was... yes.” Breathless. There’s no air in the room, only music.”

I am absolutely hooked! And certainly “breathless” for more.

Phantom requires a passionate genius in the basement, and I thought that if Sherlock's mind weren't bent on solving crimes and instead followed his violin to a different extreme.

Regardless of the field of expertise, John Watson will still admire amazing feats of intellect.

This is so lovely already! Two of my favorite stories and I never would have thought to combine them together. Go, you! As always, your writing is superb and I love the combination of the phantom mystery with the detective genre. I don't know how John was able to wait so long to see Vernet again; what patience he has! :-)

Oh, there's already a decent amount of Phantomlock fanart. Eventually, it just got stuck in my head and I had to try my hand at it.

Thanks!

This is a very cool premise. A nice play on the phantom of the opera background. Totally loving it!
