Today was busy.I had my 3 hour music theory placement exam today. I did roughly as I was expecting. Thanks to the wonder of computerized exams, I knew my scores as soon as I pushed submit. 19th century theory: 59%. 20th century theory: 69%. Form and analysis: 68%. I'd imagine those scores are pretty good for just flat out retention of knowledge, no?

I suppose I you're right. There really is a lot that I learned and managed to hold onto in my brain. They still aren't really passing grades though.

hi ben, oh dear! i haven't been on LJ for ages-- just wanted to say hello. congrats on taking this step into grad school! so many transitions at once but i'm sure you'll find your pace soon. those tests probably would have scared the hell out of me-- so kudos to you for taking them on.

as for learning how to harmonize/transpose/improvise-- i didn't learn this till i joined a band and had to start learning how to work w/ guitarists who are used to capo-ing up and down on the fly (well mine leads music at my church but you can find something cooler :) not that you're not already busy, but finding an outlet to play contemporary/jazz styles has been a big help in that area!
