Night and Day

You know what I hate? Being a night person who has to live the life of a morning person. Two days a week I have to teach at 7:30am. This means that I have to get up at 6:00am. I have an 8:30 class on my non 7:30 days. I suppose this isn't that crazy or unusual, but I don't like it. I know that I should go to bed. I think my body may even be ( Read more... )

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that in the city, we manufacture our daytime. Which means, when we get home at 7:30, our brains are still racing and we feel like we need to sufficiently "relax". Then when we try to do that, there is just so much to do - computer all night, TV, read, whatever we want. In the woods, sun goes down, everything is near impossible to do, so we go to bed. I don't think getting up at 4:30 would be easy on any level - I mean it's dark, so that's tough, plus no one else is awake so you would feel like you're moving through a sea of sleeping people.

OK, maybe I just don't get morning people :)

some of the best times of my life i've been on a very early schedule. i just can't maintain the night owl thing- it wears me out. but i love the solitude of early morning.

think about trying it- you won't feel so rushed when your classes start, you'll get to have some truly solo time, and chances are you will actually be far more rested.

can cause social pariah syndrome, though.

i hear you. i start work at 7:00, although i'll be switching to 8:00 soon, which is a little bit better. in the winter i hate getting up when it's still dark out. it's nice to get done with the work day sooner, but i feel more tired when i get up early, even if i've gotten plenty of sleep, than i do when i get up later. it might be worth trying an early schedule though, just to see if it works for you. also, you could try using a full-spectrum light for half and hour or so when you first wake up to help you adjust to a new schedule and keep on it. i have a 'blue-wave' light that takes apparently the most usefull part of the full-spectrum and blasts it at you, and when i had to get up at 4:30 every morning for the refinery turn-around it really seemed to help make it possible for me to maintain. that and caffeine. good luck!

I have to get up at 6:30 every weekday now. It's not so good, and I've found that I do less social stuff because it's "past my bedtime". I guess this is growing up, hey?
