If you're referring to the emails forwarded by the engineering department for work experience then yes, these do exist. Unfortunately they always seem to be in such exciting fields as (for example): "electrical plant engineering" "Biomedical/Nanoporous-Silicon" "process/chemical / civil/electrical/mechanical" (to take the last three from my email) etc.
While these fields may be exciting, they are not exactly my sort of field.
Nanoporous silicon is AWESOME and we need more now! The potential medical applications are many and diverse. Great way to transplant eg pancreatic cells into the body - the pores are small enough to let glucose in and insulin out, but way too small for menacing white blood cells to come chew up the new pancreas.
