» History: Oreithyia does not have much of a history. Her life was a quiet, happy one until her marriage. Born to the king and queen of Athens, she grew up under the watchful eyes of her parents and older siblings. There was no major trauma in her life, just your run of the mill childhood. She had a loving family and has many fond memories of them. She was a very content little princess. Then the god of the North Wind showed up. He asked for her hand in marriage and was rejected by her father. That didn’t sit well with him.
Rather than accept failure and move on to someone else, Boreas kidnapped Oreithyia while she was playing on the banks of the river Ilissos and raped her. He took her to Thrace where she became his immortal wife and had power over the cold mountain winds. She bore him four children, twin boys named Zetes and Kalias; and two girls, Cleopatra and Khione. She has been taken a few years into her marriage, after giving birth to all of her children.
» Personality: One of Oreithyia’s biggest weaknesses is her submissive nature. She has lived her life surrounded by very strong personalities. Growing up as the daughter of a king, her father expected full obedience from his children, and if that was not given, swift punishment followed. He was not a cruel man by any means. He just was not the most affectionate soul. He never openly proclaimed his love for his children, but he did express it. When she pleased him by behaving, or by succeeding, that was when Oreithyia saw that she was loved. Her father’s expression of pride told her so much more than words ever would. She applies this to her relationship with Boreas as well. This is what drives her to set aside her own needs for the sake of pleasing others.
Her self esteem is pretty poor. She was never overly confident, but after her abduction, she lost her sense of self. No longer was she sure of her position in life or what was expected of her. Instead she was callously used and little thought was given to her well being. Over time, her self esteem shaped itself to fit this new existence as she tried to fit herself into her new role.
She does not trust her own judgment. She has spent her whole life having decisions made for her, so it is natural for her to seek guidance when needing to make a decision. If guidance is not available, she will fret and constantly struggle to decide until she’s finally forced to do so. Even then she will question herself as to whether or not she made the right decision.
She does not handle the heat very well. She suffers from heat stroke or sun stroke very easily, and will get physically ill if she gets overheated. She has been kept in a cold environment for so long now that her body does not tolerate excessive heat.
Oreithyia is an odd mixture of maturity and immaturity. She’s can present herself as a mature, functioning member of society most of the time. When she goes about her daily life, she appears to be a well functioning nineteen year old. Should she be faced with a difficult situation or an upsetting situation, however, she reverts back to the young and frightened girl she was when she was abducted. You can thank the trauma of it all for stunting her emotional development and ability to handle rough situations.
Oreithyia has a very gentle, rather malleable, nature. There is not a mean bone in her body. She does not possess much of a temper, and she couldn’t be violent to save her life. She heartily dislikes confrontations and will go to great lengths to avoid them. Instead, she tries to mold herself into the role she is expected to fill in hopes of avoiding a confrontation or violence. She’s quite good at suppressing her wants, desires and dislikes if they do not fit with the role she is expected to play. While this is not all together very healthy, this has been somewhat of a life saver when dealing with Boreas; it kept her from acting out or fully protesting her new status in life.
She does not move at a very hurried pace unless made to. She enjoys taking her time and trying to make sure to do things right; her need to please makes her somewhat of a perfectionist. She wants to always portray perfection in everything she does, from her appearance to her apartment to her school work and job performance. She strives to accomplish what is set before her, and to make sure it is done right. This, of course, is forgotten when she is upset, but is resumed once she composes herself.
She has a streak of determination in her that many would not expect. That determination, combined with her perfectionism, is what has kept her going all this time after her abduction. To give up, in her eyes, would be to fail. She will not allow herself to fail. Growing up, she was taught that the children of kings were expected to do better than that. They were to endure, no matter what was thrown at them. And so, with that thought firmly entrenched in her mind, she is determined to make the best of her situation. She is determined to enjoy her life as much as she can, determined to make sure her children have the happiest life she can provide for them, determined to keep her husband happy, so on and so forth. Her determination to be content is one of her main strengths.
» Sample Journal: Oh no. Somehow I got myself lost. I swear I was only going to step out for a moment, I just needed a breath of air. The children were all sleeping so I thought it would be all right. What will Boreas think? I don’t want him to think I’ve left him, he’d be so unhappy. Oh what do I do? What am I suppose to do?
» Sample Roleplay: Oreithyia surveyed her apartment. It wasn’t a large space, but it wasn’t particularly tiny either. It was rather cozy, really. But it wasn’t home. Her children weren’t here, her husband wasn’t here. She frowned slightly and hugged her middle. The realization of how alone she was suddenly made this cozy little apartment seem huge. She bit her lip and contemplated what to do next. Nothing was messy, nothing was dirty, nothing needed to be done that she knew of. So now what?
She stood there for quite some time, agonizing over her next move. The fear of making the wrong move in this new setting was paralyzing. It kept her firmly rooted to that small patch of carpet she was standing on. Perhaps she could look out of her window and attempt to see what this city was like. But what if she didn’t like what she saw? What if she was terrified by what she saw? No, she would avoid getting to know the city for now.
Luckily for Oreithyia, her body did not suffer from the paralyzing fear that she did. It continued to function no matter what the circumstance, and right now, it was tired. Tired, she could deal with tired, that was something she understood. When one is tired, one sleeps. That seemed simple enough. Sleeping required a comfortable surface and a quiet atmosphere. Quiet wouldn’t be hard to come by in this empty apartment. With a direction in mind, Oreithyia finally took a step forward. That one step led to another, and then another, the need for sleep overriding her fear of making a mistake. Her courage was rewarded by the sight of a bed. A grin managed to spread over her lips and with a running start she leapt onto her bed, flopping in the center of it, surrounding herself with pillows. After the bouncing stopped and she settled comfortably, she snuggled up with one of the pillows and closed her eyes. As she began to drift off to sleep, she found herself thinking about how uncomfortably warm the apartment was. She would have to fix that when she woke up. Not now though, now it was time for sleep. Her limbs were languid and her eyelids heavy. The heat could wait for a little while.
