Tomato plants + LED grow light didn't go so well. Maybe because I didn't get them under the light quickly enough--or maybe water or lack of wind or some other factor. They seemed to dig the light for the first few weeks, then died spectacularly. It was an expensive fail ( Read more... )

LED's probably don't have the full spectrum of light needed for plant growth. Also they produce no heat, which would be essential for tomatoes.

Growing tomatoes indoors is tricky. Better if you try sprouting them indoors and then transplanting them outdoors. Timing is crucial. You want to sprout your seed about 4 weeks or so before planting outside, and you don't want to get them outside before the last spring frost.

Perhaps tomato plants also need heat from grow-lights. If this is true, LED's wont do the trick :)
