A Penny for Your Thoughts

I'd like to tap the collective wisdom of y'all.  I'm on LJ and MySpace to garner myself a few new real-life friends.  I know that a number of people have made these sites work for them that way.  It's not working as well for me as I'd like it to, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

In a word - communities. I notice that you belong to no communities here on lj. Did you know for instance that there is a community here on lj specifically for MN gamers?

The median age for users on MySpace is about 16. While there certainly are adults who use it, it's still primarily used by teenagers. (I also personally hate myspace so I am absolutely biased.)

A good place to start for communities is to look through your friend's user info and see what groups they're in. I know I do it all the time. I'd start with the local lj groups twin_cities and it's "nicer" cousin ljtwincities.

This is part of what makes lj so great. You can have all your groups and interests in one place rather than having to scour countless boards and whatnot. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help! Good luck!

I had actually looked up a bunch of groups buit hadn't gotten any further than that because I started noodling around in MySpace. Now I just need to figure out which notebook I wrote them down in.
