I did a bit of spring cleaning this past weekend. Unfortunately, it was an internal cleaning courtesy of a nasty stomach virus. I got so sick on Friday night that I ended up in the emergency room, where they pumped two liters of fluids back into me. I don't think I've ever had an IV before - the cold fluid combined with an already low body ( Read more... )

I'm glad you're feeling better. Why don't you stay home tomorrow? If you're still feeling tired I think you should stay home and rest and take it easy. And drink plenty of fluids. And more rest. Yes. Don't go into work. That's my advice.

Well, I won't push it. If I'm still shaky just from taking a shower, I'll stay home. They told me it would take a while to regain my strength, but it's getting boring. Thanks for the good advice. :-)

Poor thing! The only time I've ever been in an emergency room was for stomach pains and uncontrolled vomiting after drinking tainted water at a state park. That was *my* first and only I.V., too.

Hope you can sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

Sounds like a similar thing. Tainted water, ew. They tested for bacteria and didn't find any, and my boss said there is a stomach virus going around the schools. I don't know why it hit me so hard.

I've been sleeping up a storm since Saturday. Thanks!

Aw, thanks. Don't worry, I've been washing my hands very thoroughly. Did the laundry on Hot too. I don't want to pass this on to anyone!

Oh, you poor thing!

Let me know if you need anything ... though it sounds like C has things covered. That's a very good friend :-)

If you're feeling better this weekend, I can come over bearing DVDs and chicken soup ...

Thank you! I'm feeling much better, just weak. I ate an entire can of tuna last night with no bad consequences, but chicken soup sounds good too.

I'm going to an appointment soon, and Whole Foods is on the way home. They have a huge selection of already cooked food, I'll just have to look for the bland stuff. :-p

Forgot about Ellen today, darnit. *adds videotapes to list*

Wow, I'm sorry you were that sick!! Nothing nothing nothing as bad as food poisoning...(I've had it several times, very bad, probably bad enough that I should have gone to the hospital but didn't :-p)

Take it easy because you WILL be weak and tired for a few days. *hugs*

I really didn't want to go to the ER, but C. insisted. Her sister had colitis, so she had experience with the dehydration. And a friend of ours nearly died of food poisoning in Greece, so I knew it could be serious.

If I didn't live alone, I probably would have waited longer and just called the doctor the next day. The worst was over by the time I got to the hospital. I guess I would have ended up even weaker without the IV, so I'm glad I went. Never again, please.
