k was here this weekend. i was kind of unconsciously planning ima's xmoose nostalgia-fest for her: ice skating at wells, going to my parents' house to make peppermint meringues and watch the snowman, and the festival of lights at watkins park. she was excited and so was i. we never made it any farther than the ice skating, thanks to a merry little ( Read more... )

This is the year for this stuff, it seems! My mom is sick with a cold, I spent most of tonight in a berlin emergency room with malaria symptoms that turned out just to be a nasty stomach flu, Travis caught the cold I left Nairobi with, and his brother is stuck in london because all the flights to Berlin have been canceled. Woooooohooooooo, Merry Christmas 2007!

Hope you and K are feeling better. J is by far the best husband around--soup and biscuits, who could ask for anything more? (And friendship bracelets will bond you two for life. :))

Love you guys and happy holidays.

k bounced back pretty quickly. we seem to be doing fine for now, and i still got to sing in church on christmas eve without a hitch. hope your flu is better (but glad you don't have malaria!)

love from all of us!

As I settle into the dreaded category of "old and uncool", my comfort to myself is that I'm now becoming the self I envisioned when I was even younger.. before the concept of coolness mattered.
I've wondered if anyone else feels this way.. did you want simple things when you were a child, only to change your plans as a teen when you were trying to forge meaningful connections, and told to make goals?

i definitely feel the same way. one thing i liked to do when i was a kid was people-watch and try to find young women who looked the way i thought i'd look when i grew up. i think i was sort of into the concept of time-travel, and i thought i might run into the future me if i looked hard enough. all that mattered to me back then was that someday i'd be taller and able to drive a car and make my own dinner. mission accomplished, i guess?

1. i wore my wells ice rink jacket today to the cvs because it was raining the jacket's a slicker.
2. my room was AMAZING in junior high. i had more pictures of def leppard than ANYONE in damascus. than anyone in general, probably.

1) wells ice rink is very much the same, except there is NO SNACK BAR now. just a room full of vending machines. i was completely crestfallen when i discovered i would not be able to buy a soft pretzel.

2) when i was dating pythonmont we saw def leppard exit the RV campground showers at the erie county fair in hamburg, ny. the drummer was clad only in a towel and was heard to ask, "y'ever see a grown man naked?"
