Wow Beth. That was truly beautiful and I totally relate to it. The images you bring up with your words alone have tremendous power to bring up memories of various adventures that are shared between all students who attend rural 'cow town' colleges.

Images of my own flip-flops that are worn down to the point where I might as well be walking barefoot is a powerful message that shows that students are united in hanging onto a piece of their past, such as their hometown where they bought and didn't think twice about buying that pair of sandles that would see every major event in that students collegic life. Having that attachment to your past is an intergral part of college life.

The more I read and re-read your poem, the more I am enthralled by it to the point of obsession. So many hidden meanings and statements that never have had the same effect when not in verse. Thank you for putting into words that which were only scattered thoughts in my mind.

Will you allow me to share your work with others?

Wow Don, thank you so much for that response. To be honest, this is the first time in about a year that I've written anything remotely creative, so its really nice to hear that you really GOT what I was saying. As for sharing it with others, that's totally fine, and so sweet of you to ask.
I hope your fall is going well!
-Beth
