What: Various things!
When: The weekend of May 14/15
Where: Le Gode Hostel
Notes: This main post is just a placeholder; I realized I'd set up plans for three separate logs taking place in the hostel, so instead of spamming the comm they're just all gonna go here, as comment threads. Cool ( Read more... )

The elevator door on the ground floor was open. The Doctor sat cross-legged on the floor, the number panel in his hand. It was still connected to the inner workings of the elevator through a series of wires. His dragon was curled at his feet, her head rested on his knee, and she was sort of - purring. His other knee was currently wearing his fez.

Sefton would probably find the Doctor's current position interesting. Not because there was a dragon involved, or a fez, but because no one had been reporting any problems with the elevator.

It was indeed an interesting position. The dragon wasn't entirely unexpected; either the Doctor had spoken with Lance (beyond likely, all things considered), or the mother dragon had struck again. Either way, he wasn't about to go enforcing a no-pets-policy in the hostel as long as they didn't cause any trouble.

The elevator had most of his attention, though. Coming out from the office, Sefton peered out across the room and soon found himself striding over, stopping a few feet away with his brow furrowed slightly in confusion. "Something happen?"

"Bit of a wobble between three and four." Which was more of a mechanical problem than an electrical one, of course. But he'd get to that later. Right now, he was focused on something else.

Which he was not mentioning. At least, not right away.

Well, that explained... something. But not quite enough for Sefton. "Wobble in the elevator or the buttons? How bad's 'a bit'?"

"What?" He looked at Sefton like he must be daft. "No, of course it's not in the buttons. A wobble in the elevator. Enough to be noticeable, but it's fairly consistent."

Sefton rolled his eyes in return for the Doctor's look. "Then why're you looking at the buttons 'n not the cables or something?"

"Too slow." He moved the fez from his knee to his head, slid out from under the dragon - she started and turned to look at Sefton through deep blue eyes - and stood to start taking a closer look at the wiring within the elevator.

Sefton returned the dragon's look momentarily, then simply shifted a few steps closer and to the side to watch the Doctor. "Too slow?" he repeated. "What's the faster way?"

"No. No, no." Oh goody. Sefton was going to be one of those people he had to spell everything out for. He wished he'd known that when he'd signed on for the job. Or maybe he was being vaguer than he thought. That happened sometimes, when his brain was going the right speed. "The lift, it's too slow. Could use a bit of a kick. Thought I'd see what I can do..."

"It's an elevator," Sefton returned with a raised brow. Far be it from him to keep an employee from increasing efficiency around the hostel... but speeding up an elevator seemed fairly counter-productive. It was mostly with a business-oriented mind (though curiosity played a part, too), that he continued, "Y'know, mostly for people who can't use stairs, 'n it only goes six floors. How much of a kick's it need?"

"Not so much a kick, more of a boost. If, for instance, somebody needed to get from the top floor down to the bottom fast as possible without actually jumping out a window." He poked around in the wires a bit - not disconnecting anything, but just sort of rooting. Exploring. "Don't worry - I can make it a smooth ride."

Watching the Doctor more out of interest than suspicion, Sefton asked, "Meaning nobody's gonna smash into the ceiling when it stops?" Though that was exactly what would usually happen in the situation, he wouldn't discount the possibility that there was a way around it without employing seat belts.

"That's the idea."

The dragon was sniffing at Sefton's foot.

Considering, Sefton nodded slowly. "Sounds like a plan, if you can do that." Well, actually... "How long will it take? You gonna need anything?"

The dragon might notice that Sefton's foot (or rather, his shoe) was particularly cold. Completely out of place in the warmth of the hostel and the rest of the city as of late. The cold ran all the way up to his shins, which was exactly the reason Sefton didn't immediately step away when he noticed what she was doing. Although his body generated biomagnetic energy that transferred and affected others through touch, the shoes created a small safe zone. It was their entire point.

"Not sure... Adapting twenty-first century tech is more difficult if I'm trying to make it work well. Still, shouldn't take too long, and I can stay away from peak hours."

The dragon had noticed something off. She sniffed up Sefton's leg a bit, making a soft rumbling noise from deep in her throat.

"Okay, but... it's gonna put it out of order 'til you're done, isn't it?"

Sefton pulled his leg away just slightly as the dragon continued higher, eyeing her warily. If she went too far, he would have to step away, and he didn't really want to draw the Doctor's attention if it could be avoided.
