All week, Draco had been inclined not to stay inside, but to reach out to people: to call people on the network, to wander round the streets in hopes of random conversation and satisfying the deep-seated urge to just be around people. It was exactly that that had led him outside yet again, still watching his back as the sun set and evening rose. It wasn't like the streets offered many willing to chat up, but his feet would doubtless lead him somewhere they would. A bar or something - he'd met enough people the last time he'd gone round the nearest one anyway. Maybe his luck would hold up; perhaps he would find company before he even arrived anywhere.

"Long time, no see, blondie." De called, as she spotted a familiar, very blond head a few steps before her. She feel into a quicker gait so she could move up next to the other, giving him a big grin.

"City treating you any better?" Ah, Bete Noire, always a wonderful ice breaker.

His eyebrow went up at 'blondie', though the first thing that came to mind was less offended and more amused that he had earned a rather obvious nickname. Draco slowed slightly when he heard her call to him, turning slightly in acknowledgement before shrugging, a smile playing at his lips. "Perhaps a bit. After all, I've just been joined by a lovely lady."

After all, not even he could deny that she looked good. "How about yourself?"

"Well, I just found myself a hot guy wandering around after dark, so pretty good."

She laughed. She liked him, even if he did seem to be in over his head. Still, he sure looked better then the first time they'd meet. She reached out, hooking her arm in his. "Any great plans for the night?"

The smile grew; it had been too long since he'd been afforded that sort of attention, and he didn't mind it in the slightest. He didn't even mind when she hooked her arm through his - there was almost something reassuring about it. "None in the slightest. Barely have the slightest idea of where I'm going. You?"

"The bar. Or wherever the night takes me." She shrugged, moving easily, already feeling loose and free tonight. And she hadn't even started drinking.

She just had a feeling it was going to be a very good night.

"You wanna come? Encourage bad habits?"

"I do love encouraging bad habits," he smirked, feeling more at home than he had in a while - since he'd arrived, and even before then. He felt freer, like he had before he got the Mark, when nothing mattered; she was certainly helping that matter, her unencumbered attitude rubbing off on him. "You could show me around."

"Want to see all the great sights of Bete Noire?" She supposed if there was a tour guide, she would be a good enough one. Then again, the last time she'd offered a tour she'd ended up banging herself.

Things could go worse, really.

And it would be better then another night at the bar. Or it could included some time at the bar.

"Couldn't hurt to know my way around, at least," Draco drawled amusedly, fully willing to just go along for the ride. The joys of not having plans when one went out: it meant that the entire world was yours for the taking.

And besides, he was willing to try anything non-dangerous once.

"Then let's go on the grand tour, my friend." She started down the road, trying to figure out what, exactly, should be on the grand tour.

Really, there wasn't a lot.

"Well, this is down town."

It was true, there was hardly anything worth seeing; Draco had learned that fairly early on. It was far more interesting with good company, though.

"So it is. Bland little place, isn't it?"

"Oh, it's exciting in all the wrong ways. At least if you value not having a surprise switch blade in your kidneys."

...opps. She sure wasn't giving the new kid a good impression.

"It isn't all bad. I'm just the head of the day shift over at the police station, so I'm...in and out of that stuff all day."

He let out a small bark of laughter, content with stifling his smirk. She was rather blunt about things, wasn't she?

"I have to say, that's not precisely my idea of a good time. I tend to shy away from surprise switch blades. Or switch blades at all, for that matter," he drawled in amusement. "Sounds like you've an interesting occupation here, then. Time-consuming, if nothing else."

"Yeah, I'm use to being on the less then legal side of the fence, so it's sorta a culture shock." She shrugged.

"It's weird getting use to...following rules and all that. Then again, this place is a little more laxed. As long as you get things done and stay one of the good guys..." She laughed. "I probably shouldn't be telling you that."

"Well, I suppose it depends, doesn't it? On how one defines 'staying one of the good guys'," he started idly, glancing around thoughtfully. "I know a number of people who would say I was absolute rubbish at that, though I can't say I actually agree."

"Oh yeah? You walk the moral gray line?"

De didn't really consider herself to walk that line. But she had a feeling there was a lot of law enforcement back home who would disagree.
