All week, Draco had been inclined not to stay inside, but to reach out to people: to call people on the network, to wander round the streets in hopes of random conversation and satisfying the deep-seated urge to just be around people. It was exactly that that had led him outside yet again, still watching his back as the sun set and evening rose. It wasn't like the streets offered many willing to chat up, but his feet would doubtless lead him somewhere they would. A bar or something - he'd met enough people the last time he'd gone round the nearest one anyway. Maybe his luck would hold up; perhaps he would find company before he even arrived anywhere.

"I would think they would do that to, but...people do whatever they have to for power."

Even if it was disgusting as all hell.

"How do you all do your magic?"

"I suppose they will," he agreed quietly. An unfortunate fact.

"Well-placed words and the correct wave of my wand," Draco said simply, mind suddenly flickering to his first year lessons. There really wasn't anything more to it than that, oddly enough.

"Well that seems easy enough. Can anyone do it?" She asked, waving her finger in the air. She clearly had no idea of the politics of it, but hell, if she could learn magic, she'd be down for that.

"Unfortunately not," he told her, shooting an apologetic glance. "Just those with magic in their blood. Not sure how it works for those from other...places, though. Haven't tested the theory."

"You'll have to test my magical poweress someday." She said with a suggestive smirk.

"Show me how to wave your wand."

She was sure these weren't original. But seriously, how awesome did you get to use that line?

Draco certainly hadn't heard them before, and that made them original; granted, the pick up lines usually used around him tended to be limited to 'get over here now'. Slytherins didn't often toy around with good lines, unless they were kidding.

Admittedly, De didn't sound like she was entirely taking the line seriously anyway. He smirked back, shrugging lightly. "I'm sure I can manage that. But right here and now?" He sniggered lightly to himself, "Rather forward, don't you think? I'd hate for someone to run into something like that out here. They'd never know what to do with themselves."

"Around here they sure would, we just probably don't want to be a part of that."

She laughed again, feeling good. It was nice to just relax, and not worry about...well, about everything. She had been worrying far to damn much lately.

"So you live in the Hostel, yeah? Got a job yet?"

"Probably not. Let's leave it simply to their imaginations, hm?" He joined her in true laughter for a moment, semi-constant tension leaving him if only for the time being.

"Not yet. Can't find anything worth my time." And he hadn't been looking, admittedly; doubtless Draco would find himself bored within a matter of days and find himself something of use that both paid and kept boredom at bay. "Still looking, of course."

"It...where I came from, I never had a job that lasted more then a few months. So this holding down employment thing is still something to get use to. Still..." She scrunched of her face for a moment, shrugging. "I'm sure back home there are plenty of people my age who never had careers either. I just never expected too."

"You're more than adaptable, I think; I'm sure you'll be able to get used to it." After all, Bete Noire, for all that it was, seemed to be one of those places that offered up brand new experiences and opportunities; if it weren't for what Draco had heard about it, he would almost think it a blessing rather than a curse. Perhaps it was merely both.

"It's not a bad thing, at any rate. Just new."

"Yeah, well I've been here for a year to get use to it. This place..." She shrugged. "You do get half use to things. And then the city decided to turn around and shank you in the back every other month."

She looked up at the stars as they walked, shrugging. "You know. Shit comes and goes here, gets weird, settles into normal, get's weird again..."

"If weird involves running into gorgeous women in the streets, I think I can deal with it," he murmured, largely to himself. Lifting his voice back up to address her fully, and letting his eyes flick between her and the street ahead of them, making the most of the opportunity to simply observe without being creepy, Draco continued: "So no matter how bloody odd things are, they get better. Is that the gist of this tale?"

She smiled, more then happy to take the compliment. And more then happy to play up to it to, leaning her body against his more as they walked and giving him a generous smile.

"Well, sometime it gets better. And sometimes there's a zombie invasion of everyone you have ever loved and lost. This city is a like playing the 'everything blows' lottery. Most the prizes suck, but you don't always win." She gave him another grin. "And a lot of the other players are pretty good company."

He shifted slightly when she did, sliding his arm instead around her waist before returning her smile to the street in front of them.

"Misery loves company, isn't that what they say?" Draco tried, flapping his other hand dismissively, mouth still curving upwards involuntarily. "Good company is all the better, though. Particularly if...you know, positively bollocks scenarios are going on all round you."

"Yeah, that sums it all up. it may suck but we're all here together." She squeezed his waist as she said it, enjoying leaning into him. She felt like a teenage girl on a date, and it wasn't an awful feeling.

"Yeah, positively bollocks sounds about right." She said, snickering.
