[ When there's no response, Lance makes a special trip up there just for the Doctor, knocking firmly on the door (and wincing a little at the throb in his knuckles when he does so. This darned power ...).
Then he waits--mostly with patience--until either the Doctor answers or it's going to become clear he won't. He has a key, after all. ]

I'm not here! [...and that was definitely the blurt of someone whose mind was otherwise occupied before they spoke. You can probably feel the wince through the door.]
[A few seconds later, the lock is undone and the Doctor opens the door, smiling in that no-I-certainly-didn't-just-make-an-arse-of-myself way.]
[He looks over his shoulder, toward the phone which is resting on his bedside table.]
Ah. Yes. [He checks his watch.] Two weeks.
Here's the thing, Lowell... I kinda like it here. Not ready to move house just now.
[He wasn't looking forward to this, but he can admit when he's been caught, so let's cut to the chase:] You're short-staffed at the moment, yeah? What sort of stuff d'you need? I'm good with stuff.
[He holds up a finger in a 'hold-on-a-second' gesture, goes to his bedside table and brings back the scanner he built. It looks like a wall clock with fourteen hands.] I made this!
[...and then he takes another look at it.] Right, probably not the best example, especially if you're not familiar with multiphase technology. [He tosses it aside. CLANG.] Got anything that needs fixing? I'll fix it.
Phase as in phsyics, multi as in... lots of 'em. Efficient way of getting multiple phases happening at once. Good for compressing a lot of different types of information into the same small space. Sort of like a computer only you can build in your garage. Well - suppose you could build a computer in your garage. If you were good with computers.
[His room isn't far from the elevators, so that little speech has taken them all the way there. He presses the button.]
[ It comes out automatically, in his surprise, because 'compressing' things 'into the same small space' sure as hell sounds like pocketing things (just like pokemon). ]
I can pocket lots of things. Paperclips, sandwiches... screwdrivers. [At that, he reaches into his jacket pocket and draws out the sonic screwdriver, gives it a little flip-toss and catches it again.]
...I was trying to learn something about the nature of this place.
Compression. Into a small space, just a shade of a dimension apart from this one. So the thing holding it can hold a ton of energy, but only takes up a bit of space on this side. S'what pocketing is.
[ He steps into the elevator (skirting the Doctor) and moves to the corner, pointing up at the flickering light over the button-dash. ]
[And yes, he's ignoring it. You're probably going to have to come find him.]
[Lucky for Lance, whenever he happens to head up to the sixth floor, the Doctor will just happen to be in his room. =3]

Wasn't going to chuck you out if you have skills to offer. We need a chef, a janitor and more security personnel.

[He looks up, gestures at the light fixtures in the corridor.] What about electrics? Have you got someone for maintenance?

No. You can do that?
