[ There’s a bang.

Piper gasps awake in a hospital bed, shooting straight up with her hands still as bloody and sticky as ever. They go to her stomach, where she peels away her shirt to see her wound slowly healing. Her hands still shake from what she remembers. It wasn’t a memory. Prue was standing right in front of her and she was in the Manor ( Read more... )

[ That's Mom. That's Mom, and she's in the hospital and there's blood on her hands. That's Mom, in the hospital, bloodied hands, calling for Prue. He can tell where she is, but to find the hospital and actually get there would take time he can't stand to lose.

For a moment, he's entirely speechless. Then, he finds a word: ]

WYATT!!

[ he hears it too and almost immediately, he orbs in next to his brother into the apartment he's commandeered. he's in sweat pants and a t-shirt. he's barefoot. ]

Yes, it is, now orb!

[ He grabs Wyatt's arm, not even bothering to explain why he isn't gone already.

He needs to see Piper, needs to make sure she'll be all right, before he can stop to think about himself. He's seen Piper injured before - it's practically part of their job description - but something makes it feel too real, too connected with the worst possibility he can fantasize. Even now, he tries to push back the images of a ruined birthday party and his mother on the floor, her last few shallow breaths running out all too quickly. ]

[ He's going to protest, to be the brother that, that thinks - what do they tell her, what do they say? but, he can't. because he's the impulsive, prideful brother and his mother has just appeared in the city.

Immediately, he orbs them into her room. The words, "Mom" almost escape his lips but only the "m" sound manages before... ]

[ Piper is still panicking to her heart's content when she sees the familiar shine of blue appear in her room. She smiles, relieved, because Leo finally brought his ass back from the Underworld to save her own. He must've been wrong. Maybe he could hear from down there. Except -

When those blue lights faded away, Piper frowned. She'd move higher up the bed, away from the two men if she weren't still bleeding and in pain. The city may be healing her, but it was doing so at a snail's pace. ] Who the hell are you?

[ Chris interjects before Wyatt can finish his thought, and before Piper can work herself up too much. ]

Piper.

[ He steps forward, moving around to the other side of her hospital bed (hands raised in a gesture of harmlessness), both giving Wyatt his own space and making sure he can stay close without getting in the way. He tries to erase as much of the hurt and worry from his expression as he can manage because this is going to be an especially hard sell. His cards need to be played just right. ]

Don't worry. I'm, uh-Chris Perry. This is my whitelighter-[ the slightest pause ]-Wyatt Matthews. He can heal you. We just... we want to help.

[ Piper frowns as Chris approaches. He seems friendly enough, but so did Jeremy and Rex Buckland - and herself to Dan, and look how well that turned out. Just because someone looked friendly didn't mean that they were. The name of his whitelighter peaks her interest. She almost thinks she mishears him, thinking that he means Leo Wyatt, but after he tacks on the Matthews, she finds her heart sink. Wyatt for a first name? It's not a very common name floating around San Francisco, but Piper finds that she won't bite. Maybe save that for later.

What she doesn't understand is how the hell they even knew she needed help. Not that she needs their help - she's fine on her own and she's got Leo, for crying out loud - but perhaps the Elders are looking after her sorry ass after all.

Piper feels incredibly uncomfortable, given her situation. She wants to be healed and get the hell out of there, but her stubborn streak seemed to be out, loud and proud. She doesn't want to owe anyone anything. And where the hell was Leo? Shouldn't he be able ( ... )

[ Before he can speak up, Chris interrupts him spilling out lies. Chris Perry. Wyatt Matthews. Wait, he's missing something. Except, it makes sense. She's asking for Leo. She's calling for Prue. She's -- she's injured. And that's what he can't stop focusing on. That, and the lies. And how can he get through this? Newsletter?

No. No. He can do this. He is good under pressure. He's not neurotic. Chris has taken control but he can do this. ]

Everyone knows who the charmed ones are, Piper.

[ He looks to Chris and back at her moving to her bed. ]

Hold still.

[ He holds his hands out. Lies aside, he's interested in healing her. She should not be in pain. She should not be hurt. She should be happy and whole. And ... from a different time. ]

[ Chris raises a brow at Wyatt, silently considering and giving nothing away. It's a good answer, but probably one that will need more explaining. He'll wait; if Piper asks more questions, he'll answer them then. If she can accept that answer, they'll go with it.

When Wyatt starts doing his thing, Chris glances away. He would rather see his mom healed than watch her wound - and sees something on the nightstand next to her bed. The glowing red light tips him off to what it is and he snatches it up, fiddling it until he finds the power switch and completely shuts off the network device.

He looks back in time to see the healing finishing up, and offers a wan smile. ]

How are you feeling?

[ She'd roll her eyes if she weren't trying to keep her attention on Wyatt and Chris. Seriously, did everyone know who they were? Piper preferred the life of an anonymous citizen of San Francisco. She liked being a blur in someone's imagination or a forgotten name. Essentially being the John Connors of the magical world was a lot to bear on her shoulders.

Wyatt approaches her and she wants to somehow bolt the hell away. After the day she experienced, she couldn't trust anyone - not the Elders to save their asses, not Tempus to rewind time, not Cole, not even herself. She found herself holding still despite her instinct to raise her hands and try to attack. Despite coming in peace, Piper was still in shock from the entire day.

With a glance to Chris, her eyes still narrowed, she was thankful that the pain and the inevitable dying was gone. She seemed to relax on her bed for a moment, as though forgetting they were even there. ] Pissed off. [ Reluctantly ] And tired. But I'm looking forward to getting out of here. [ Wyatt pulled his hands back as soon as he was finished, looking at Chris. He could contribute to the conversation but something told him his brother wanted to take over. He didn't know what his game was past their lie. What to tell her. What about the truth he could tell her. So he stepped back, allowing Chris to come in. It was his line, not Wyatt's. Besides, their mother was here. ]

They're not here.

[ Chris does want to take over, because it's all he really knows how to do. He can take cues, sure, but not from people who have no idea what they're doing, and it seems like he's the most informed person in the room. ]

I mean-this isn't San Francisco. They might be here, I don't know. "Here" just isn't what you might want it to be. [ Shaking his head, he sets the device aside once again. ] This is Bete Noire, a sort of... pillar dimension? I don't know much about it yet, but leaving isn't as easy as just grabbing the nearest cab.

[ The device captures Piper's attention, but the mention of a dimension seems to take priority. It reminds her of Leo, instantly, with his babble of timelines and planes and all the other supernatural crap they've had to deal with over the past three years.

The mentioning of cabs and the underling message of being absolutely stuck and screwed causes Piper to frown and she looks at Wyatt. ] But you can orb! Cole could shimmer into another freaking plane, so, why haven't you orbed us the hell out of here?

[ And now he has to chime in. And she should stay away from the cabs. Nothing is really that safe in this city... ]

I've tried. When I first got here, I tried orbing out. Something...bounced me back. Look, we know it's a lot to take in. Especially after ... [ He looks at Chris and back at their mother. ] But, you have to calm down because we aren't the ones that brought you here. But, we are stuck here with you. Along with ... a good deal of others.

And, don't take the cabs. They aren't safe.

Right. For the record, walking doesn't work either. [ Or flying. ] Whatever it is that keeps people from leaving is what pulls them in, too. Like it did for you, and like it did for us.

Uh huh. [ Just side-eyeing the both of you. ] Right. Maybe the safer question to ask is what do you know. Apart from public transportation needing to be vanquished. [ May be making fun of you there. Sorry, Wyatt. ]

[ She looks at Chris ] What was that in your hand? The thing you put down? [ She didn't get a good look at it at all. She didn't even know her communicator was even in the room with her. ]
