So what does a guy have to do to get a job around here? I've been looking, but most of these places are not the most friendly working environments I've ever seen. [ And he's worked with demons! ]

My strongest suit is... [ Ergh. Pause. It's harder to say than he even imagined, like something is making him even warier than usual. ] ... magical stuff ( Read more... )

[dryly, and mostly to himself:] When in doubt, ask the network.

How, out of curiosity, does one specialise in 'purely intellectual magical stuff'?

That's what I thought.

And here I thought you knew things about magic.

I know plenty. I also know that witches on broomsticks are just old wives' tales where I'm from. [ ... a wives' tale that his aunt started, actually... Look, their lives are really weird, okay? ]

Witches and wizards very much ride broomsticks where I come from. What else would they ride? You can't just assume the Floo network will connect you everywhere you need to go, nor can you use Portkeys all the time.

Cars. Usually they use cars. Sometimes they'll get their whitelighters to orb them someplace, but... you know, still mostly cars.

...cars. Those buggered Muggle devices. Why?

And what in the hell is a whitelighter?

They're convenient.

I could ask you the same thing about a Floo network.

Hardly.

Thank Merlin your speciality is magical creatures, and not magical methods of transportation. Though I've always known magical creatures were a right crock.

What, are you not old enough for a license yet?

You don't believe in magical creatures.

[Draco gives him a look that suggests age is hardly the issue here, and that he's an idiot. Mostly just the latter.]

I believe in them just fine. Hard not to when you've been mauled by a Hippogriff at thirteen. It's still an absolute tragedy that my father's intention to get it put down never went through. [and he's dating one. That's not important, though.]

[ It was sarcasm, Draco. If his own video were on, he'd be getting an incredibly flat look back. ]

Oh, so you just don't like them.

Because there's more than one species of magical creature out there?

[ Also, where he's from, witches and wizards are under the same heading as any other magical being. ]

And very few of them have any redeeming qualities.

[don't tell him that.]

To you, anyway.

[ He'll keep it in reserve for now~ ]
