This morning we woke up to a frantic email from a friend. He was in London and had been mugged the night before. His flight was in a couple hours and the hotel wouldn’t let him leave until he settled his bill. Which he couldn’t do without his wallet.

I got a pretty much identical e-mail from someone I just kinda-sorta knew a couple of years ago. Why is it always in London? It's interesting how the image and idea of someone we know, being stranded and broke in a foreign hotel room, brings up such images in our minds.

It's so true! And honestly if a friend was really in trouble I would do everything I could. I think my friends would return this if they were able to. Thankfully it was just a hacked email account and no one fell for it.

I got one of these emails too, only it was through a google email group thingy.

Maybe London is the city mentioned because it sounds most credible to Americans?
