LiveJournal Guilt

Dec 27, 2009 19:48

A month ago, my paid membership ran out. For the first time in 6.5 years, I didn't renew it.

I'm running on a free account for the moment. There go my polls.

And i haven't looked at anyone else's postings either. Out of guilt, I think.

The way I saw it, no one would even know i was gone ( Read more... )

don't know of anybody who died.

remember that lj is what you make of it -- nobody's gonna get peevish if you're off having real life (or even twitter :) instead.

Nope, nobody's died that I know of. I miss ya and hope you come back, but for some strange reason, LJ's been fairly dead for a few months. Trying to stick it out, but I can't always think of something to say.

It's not clear to me why "running on free" is cause for guilt? Because it represents some failure of commitment to the medium? Because ads are sucky?

Anyway, lapse of paid membership != ceasing to exist. So, you know. Do what feels right for you: post or don't post, read or don't read, pay or don't pay. Just be aware that those three variables are independent!

Me, I've been posting a lot of late, you should at least log in and read the past few weeks. >:-)

*hugs*

I have to agree with the posters here, though I don't think it's so simple as guilt due to usage of an unpaid account or some such.
(my account is nonpaid, but you'll likely argue that this is as much circumstantial as it is a personal decision)

I have noticed that many of my f=list has been lapsing in their posts with the exceptions of the few who update regularly anyhow.

Though of course, there are other factors as well.

Thanks to NoScript, I don't see any ads on my free account. I don't spend a lot of time on LJ, but I do wonder if I punted it, would I seek more facetime with people? It isn't reliable, for sure; many are the times I've heard "no, I didn't read about that" from someone on my or J's f-list.
