Female Community Tank

Back when I kept female betta communities instead of gouramis, I used to house between three and seven in a 10 gallon aquarium. I got very lucky and had pleasant ladies who largely got along wonderfully. :3 It got me thinking though...is there any sort of an upper limit to the tank and school size for female bettas? Goldfish and bettas have very different water quality and filtration needs, so I definitely don't recommend them as tankmates. Setting aside questions of pH and temperature, a filter strong enough to keep a goldfish tank clean would suck the bettas right up.

I haven't tried keeping a lady betta community, so I can't really advise on that!

I don't mean as tankmates, those suggested possibilities are individual tank setups. One setup is bettas and appropriate tankmates, one setup is gouramis with appropriate tankmates, one is Amazon river fish and plants, while the last would be a coldwatergoldfish(likely alone) tank.

Does that make sense? Sorry if my wording sounded confusing. I would NEVER put tropical together with cold water.I would also be doubly careful about who I place with the likes of bettas or gouramis, since both can be much more aggressive than...oh, say cories or neons.

I had a 20 gallon long tank with 10 females but from what I have seen online, no more then 12 MAX for a 20G. It seems that for every 10 gallons, you can have a max of 6 females...
